Photographer's Note

This is Sony. On the left is how I got to know him, on the right is a more traditional view.

When you travel in Cambodia, it is more common to rent a motorbike including a driver(motodop) then it is to simply rent the motorbike. Actually, I believe it is the law that a westerner is not allowed to rent a bike, although that law is commonly ignored. Sony was my ride for two days in Phnom Pehn. To be honest, I don't believe the photo on the right totally fits within the ideals of trekearth, as it just shows some guy on a motorbike(I would call it a scooter). However, the photo on the left is totally within the spirit of TE I believe, as this is a very common view of what a traveller sees of his driver. I just didn't think it fair that Sony remains faceless.

If you are in PP, and looking for a ride, I can highly recommend Sony. He was lots of fun to hang out with, spoke English well, and certainly knows his way around. The only bad part about Sony is that he has a great laugh, and he laughs often. While being able to laugh heartily is a great thing, and something I normally admire, there were times when we were driving that I was worried Sony's infectious laugh would drive get us into an accident. It never did though, it just leads to happy memories. I believe Sony is quite typical of the friendliness of the Khmers, and I certainly hope to meet him again.
