Photographer's Note

The confluence (sangam) of the Zanskar river (from top) and the Indus (bottom) is 3km southeast of Nimmu village. The explanation for the different coloration of the rivers is threefold : Temperature (the Indus is considerably warmer than the Zanskar), acidity, velocity (the faster river can carry more sediment). From here the river flows into Pakistan and down to the Arabian sea in Karachi. Source : Rich Axelby (rich) trekearth member.
