Photographer's Note

A brand new cathedral for the Moscovites. I was told that there used to be a cathedral on the same place and that it was destroyed during the Stalin Era, perhaps in the 30's. Stalin gave the order to build a huge swimming pool instead. Apparently the decision to rebuild this church at the same site was taken after 1990: The rebuilding of the great monument took two and a half years at the incredible cost of 250 million dollars. After having visited the cathedral
I have understood why. No expense has been spared and
the inside looks magnificent: Crowds at the Mess on Sunday morning seemed to show their enthusiasm.
They also built a beautiful pedestrian bridge across the Moskva river and this where I stood when taking the wide angle picture: A few minutes later the sun was gone and we did not see it again during the last days of our stay in Moscow.
