Photographer's Note

While we were staying in the River Kwai Raft houses we took a raft trip down the river. Mostly there were longboats going too fast to enjoy the scenery, but the lazy speed of the rafts allowed us to enjoy the surroundings.

This was the 礎oatman from another raft. His bizarre outfit is nothing to do with traditional garb, but an effort to prevent the sun from darkening his skin. He was also one of the traditional dancers at the evening show at the raft houses, and was keen to keep his skin as pale as possible. He is from the Mon tribe originating from Myanmar and living in the Mon village above the raft houses.
