Photographer's Note

An elderly Hmong lady slurps noodle soup at a food stall in Lung Phin. Market days are a festive day out for the hill dwellers in the surrounding area. They put on their best clothes. They come to sell, buy, eat, drink, date and banter. But this grand lady was most interested in getting a hearty bowl of noodle soup. Yummy!

The HMONG are one of the most widespread ethnic groups in South-East China, Vietnam, Laos and northern Thailand. They have their own language and usually live in the hill country. There are several subgroups. This lady belongs to the Blue Hmong people.

Though I must say I was a bit let down by the quantity, I was pleased by the quality of the reactions my previous "strong man" post got. For me travelling is first and foremost interacting with people, so people pictures is my favourite genre and Vietnam still is a wonderful place for it. The nature picture fans among you will have to wait.
