Photographer's Note

The top of Volcn Iraz (elevation = 3432 m) is established as a national park in Costa Rica. It is only a few hours drive from San Jos. There is a large, remarkably flat plateau of old lava within the outer rim of the volcano. On the northern edge of this plateau are two craters. The smaller one (Crater Diego de la Haya) is 80 m deep and 1 km across. This photo shows the larger, Crater Principal, which is 300 m deep and about 1 km across. The water really is green!
