Photographer's Note

he plaza de armas was the center of religious, civil and military power of the spanish colony in cuba. it was also the center of expansion of the urbanization of the city.
in the background, to the left, the neoclassical building where the first mass (el templete) was held. this building is one of the founding symbols on it as a ceiba tree stands as a tribute and habaneros run through every November 16th, the anniversary of the city.
right, this hotel (santa isabel) was the former home of counts of santovenia. an imposing mansion.
to the extreme left is the castle of force (castillo de la fuerza), the oldest in america, where hernando de soto went to discover florida and the source of eternal youth.
