Photographer's Note

This is my fourth and final posting in the Hurricane Ivan series although I may in future post other photos from the island. The first three postings can be found here:
After the Hurricane I
After the Hurricane II
What Happened to the Road?

Thanks to everyone who has commented so far. In particular I hope you appreciate the notes, which I feel are more important than the photos for this particular series. I'll be back onto the "pretty" pictures soon :-)

Today's photo shows one of the many signs around the island that is trying to boost morale in these difficult times. I wonder how the guy who owns the house in the background feels? He has lost his roof and the upper room is destroyed. Is he bitter? Or ultimately will he become a better person for his experiences?

Across the island I came across people with different views. The guy who owned the guesthouse seemed very accepting of the situation and was looking towards rebuilding his property and livelihood. My guide on the other hand, while not bitter, was more critical. In his eyes the government wasn't doing enough and aid was not being distributed properly.

The island will take a long time to get back to normal. And until there is some major reconstruction, tourists will not return. As one of the main sources of income for Grenada, they are desperately needed.

Good luck Grenada. I wish you well.

Jonathan
