Photographer's Note
Tallinn wooden districts : Kadriorg and Kalamaja.
Kadriorg is known for the Kadriorg Palace and surrounding park, but it is also a district of charming wooden houses.
Kadriorg has been one of the most prestigious areas of Tallinn through the ages. This picturesque district is in the city center, yet feels secluded as it is surrounded by trees creating a small town feel. The whole area is full of wooden houses from 19th and 20th century. At the beginning of the 19th century, Tallinn was beginning to earn a reputation as a popular resort town, and the seaside Kadriorg district became a go-to place for holidaymakers. Summer villas, swimming lounges, baths, hotels, guesthouses, and restaurants, all handsomely decorated with wooden carvings and turrets, sprung up in Kadriorg. The uniqueness of Kadriorg is its wealth and elegance; it is both a public and intimate cityscape.
Kalamaja mostly notable as one of the best preserved historic wooden architecture areas in Tallinn, and Estonia. The quiet neighbourhood has long been known for its colourful hodgepodge of old fashioned, working class houses. In fact, 'Kalamaja' literally means'fish house' in Estonian, and starting from the 14th century the area was traditionally dominated by fishermen, fishmongers and boat wrights. Recently the area has taken on a bohemian atmosphere, becoming the residence of choice for young, creative types.Clever use of space and dedicated use of local produce makes the local restaurant-caf駸 an integral part of the Kalamaja atmosphere. It痴 the part of town where you will get the best feel of the locals life-style.
Comparison of Kadriorg and Kalamaja, for me this first district is prettier.

Hello Piotr,
Too bad I missed this part of Tallinn with those charming wooden houses, painted in pastel colours. The composition is excellent and well-balanced and the bright sunlight is a real winner here. Great shot.

Hello Piotr,
I saw a lot of wooden houses in Tallinn and elsewhere in Estonia that were in a terrible shape, but in this upscale district they look very carefully restored and beautifully painted. It's like a small town a long time ago. It's a very nice view facing three streets, and you were lucky one woman stepped into the photo. Light and colours are fantastic.

Gert

Hi Piotr,
The red and white sign is an eye-catcher. The point of view is showing a double perspective of the architecture of the building. The light is making the colors to stand out. Have a nice day.

Hello Piotr,
Beautiful wooden houses and the soft colours of their facades look so wonderful under the plain blue sky.
Here you have been able to put different houses painted in different colours nicely on one picture.
Best regards, Paul

cześc Piotrze, pamietam Pałac i park, pewnie widziałam też te drewniane domki. Pałac też zbudowany przez Piotra Wielkiego dla Katarzyny. Śliczne te domki, ładnie utrzymane. Podobne sa w Bergen.
Pozdrawiam MAłgorzata

Hello Piotr,
I almost did not realized those houses were wooden built.
The photo is well lit, sharp, and the corner POV from across the intersection was well chosen.
Good afternoon,

Piotr, that picture gives an insight to Kadriorg, a quarter in Tallinn. All the houses are made of wood and date from more than one century ago. Interesting architectural details, good light.
