Photographer's Note
The Abbaye de Fontenay doesn't get a lot of visitors This is probably because it isn't near any large centre (Dijon is over 70km away) and it is well away from major roads. That meant that when we visited the complex we had the place to ourselves but it also meant you couldn't have people in photos for scale. Definitely no tour groups!
The cloisters are the most complete and impressive that I've ever visited. Selecting which photo to have as the main one was tricky but I selected this one from in the inside looking out through the cloisters. In the workshops are a photo looking along a cloister and another from in the courtyard showing the exterior.
The 2 interior photos were bracketed photos combined using Nik HDR Efex Pro software to even out the light.
Best in the large view.

Hello Ian, It doesn't disturb me that there are no people in the composition. And what a joy when you have such a place for yourself, without the people taking selfies. Marvelous old courtyard. Beautiful low arches. I like especially the low left corner. Pity I haven't visited this abbey.
Have a nice day

Hello Ian
Effective tight framing on this momentarily deserted cloister. Looks a bit damp judging from the green moss. Good sharpness and well framed and composed. Tfs!

Hello Ian,
Wow, this picture shows the beautiful architecture of the abbaye in an excellent way!
Arches everywhere and particularly sturdy columns.
Excellent depth and clarity in all details.
I like the photo in its entirety very much but I find the different arcs following one another on the left side absolutely beautiful!
Best regards, Paul
