Photographer's Note

Groundwater percolates for over a kilometer downwards, reaches magma in the Earth, and then heating brings it back to the surface in vile-smelling, bluish-greyish belching pools of mud.

I won't soon forget visiting Hverarond and Myvatn at Midnight in July. Light from the sun was still strong, I had to wear a hat and gloves because it was so cold, and it seemed my wife and I were the only ones for miles. The 35km drive back to our farmhouse in Grimsstadir made us feel as if we were on the Moon.
