Photographer's Note

rney to the Center of the Earth (French: Voyage au centre de la Terre, also translated under the titles A Journey to the Centre of the Earth and A Journey to the Interior of the Earth) is an 1864 science fiction novel by Jules Verne. The story involves German professor Otto Lidenbrock who believes there are volcanic tubes going toward the centre of the Earth. He, his nephew Axel, and their guide Hans descend into the Icelandic volcano Sn詛ellsjkull, encountering many adventures, including prehistoric animals and natural hazards, before eventually coming to the surface again in southern Italy, at the Stromboli volcano.(Wikipedia).

Sn詛ellsjkull is a 700,000-year-old glacier-capped stratovolcano in western Iceland. It is situated on the most western part of the Sn詛ellsnes peninsula in Iceland. Sometimes it may be seen from the city of Reykjavk over Faxa Bay, at a distance of 120 km.

The mountain is one of the most famous sites of Iceland.
In August 2012 the summit was ice-free for the first time in recorded history.
Jules Verne has never been in Iceland.
