Cattedrale di San Zeno
The Cathedral of San Zeno is the main place of Catholic worship in Pistoia, a bishop's see of the diocese of the same name. According to tradition, initially the cathedral was dedicated to San Martino, it was under the Lombard domination which was then dedicated to San Zeno. The cathedral has a Romanesque fa軋de modeled on other churches in the city built at the same time (San Bartolomeo e Sant'Andrea). On the two ends of the cusp of the fa軋de are the two marble statues of the patron saints, St. Zeno and St. Jacopo, once placed in the loggia. The building, with a bell tower and baptistery, has an interior with three naves with a raised presbytery and a crypt, and was probably built in the 10th century. Over time it has undergone several alterations and has been restored to its primitive form by a restoration that took place between 1952 and 1966, completed in 1999.
