Castle of Sellano (PG)
Sellano is a castle of poggio that rises at an altitude of mt. 640 s. the. m., in a dominant position on the valley of the river Vigi, a tributary of the Nera. Much has been reasoned around his name. The toponym is in fact the type that technically defines itself as predial, that is linked to a praedium, to a land possession. Predial toponyms are derived from a name or from a Latin nobility followed by the suffix of belonging -anum: over the centuries, despite the passages, the trace of that property has been preserved, reaching up to the medieval age and then up to us . The historic Spoletino Severo Minervio, identified the inhabitants of Sellano with the Syillates mentioned by Pliny the Elder in the third book of his "Naturalis Historia". Minervio strengthened the statement by quoting two inscriptions, relevant to a Suzhou gens attested in the area. Ludovico Jacobilli wrote instead that "Sillano or Sellano, already castle, hoggi walled earth of the diocese and territory of Spoleto" would have been built by the followers of Lucio Cornelio Silla at the time of civil wars (1st century BC). The emblem of the village depicts St. Michael the Archangel standing over a saddle, alluding to a completely different reading of the toponym, understood as referring to "saddle" in the sense of a pass, step.

Ciao Caro Silvio,
A view of the place that you posted yesterday but, with a change of position, you have given a different interpretation.
Here, the pathway acts as a lead, whilst the castle and associated buildings are illuminated beautifully to stand out against the gloomy, steep hillside.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Silvio
Everytime you post these it makes me want to get on a plane and explore. I wonder how this town looked a couple hundred years ago, some changes for sure, but pretty much the same in terms of the old town in the centre. excellent viewpoint to capture this scene, and the lighting was certainly in your favour. Nice one. cheers

Hi Silvio,
The village is well placed in the frame. The point of view is showing the details of the houses, of the buildings and of the church. The light is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

Ciao Silvio,
Je me demande bien combien il peut y avoir de village qui se nomme Castello quelque chose en Italie, mais ils semblent tous plus beaux les uns que les autres. Magnifique point de vue.

Silvio, you captured well the light shining on the roofs. That village was built on a hill slope, it is surrounded by woods. The church tower stands out from the lower houses. Fine colors, good image quality, instructive photo note, regards.

Hello Silvio,
A fantastic view of the town on top of the hill. The bright sunlight is amazing and makes it stand out so well from the dark slopes behind it. Very well captured from a good viewpoint.

Hello Silvio
Here, the deep blue shaded mountain forms the perfect backdrop for the sun-drenched townscape.
The village comes to life extra because of this strong contrast.
Excellent work
Have a nice day, groet Rob
