Photographer's Note

Today we had splendid weather so I went with my Nokia to take some pictures. Here something colorful after my mainly white Iceland pictures. I wanted to see this quite new mural in the center of Warsaw. I wanted to see it on a sunny day. Unfortunately, the time was not quite right - there is a shadow on the face. I must go there another time.
The woman depicted on the mural is a Polish singer called Kora. As lead singer of the group Maanam, Kora was one of the leading lights of the Polish rock scene for decades, becoming a household name to thousands upon thousands of Poles.

She died in July from ovarian cancer at the age of 67, having won the respect and admiration of many for her openness when it came to dealing with the illness and her passionate campaigning for better cancer treatment.
The mural is surrounded by trees and other plants so it will change with the passing of the seasons. During a snowy winter, Kora will have blond hair, in spring she will get flowers in her hair.
Her hair is partly painted, partly made visually by branches of the chestnut tree and their shadows.
