Porto was easily my favourite destination in Portugal, I fell in love with this city almost immediately.
I came across this little gem while walking around and just searching. There were a group of locals just sitting and or laying down on mattresses out in the open squares. How perfect is that!
Using my wide angle lens, I wanted to capture the people and the architecture in the background. In the WS is another variation - and it was very hard for me to pick which one to post.
I love the WS photo because its on a more acute angle so its more dynamic and artistic, but the main photo has more people in it. Also, in this main scene, the man in the red shirt in the middle seems completely asleep and unaware of everything around him haha. Both I like, but I went with this one. Anyways, take a look at the second photo as well if you have time.

Hello Craig,
I have seen people enjoying the sunshine in the centre of cities but never on public mattresses!
This is a both amusing and arty! I suppose the mattresses are much cheaper and easier to maintain than sun beds!
Yes, the lines are very important both as guides and as a framework.
To some extent, the scene is like the the one that Rob posted from a museum, where the positioning of the seats and the people become the constantly changing art display.
The sense of total relaxation has been captured here, in this well composed photograph.
My preference is for the main post.
Have a lovely day,
Bev :-)

Hello Craig ,
This one is classical , the WS has a more dynamic effect , for my taste . Both are excellent and interesting .
Porto is a city I must to visit .

Hello Craig,
I can't say we came across anything like this during our visit to Porto a few years ago. What a great idea to hire/lend out mattresses on a sunny day in the city. The sun worshippers are nicely dotted across the frame; I also like the graphism supplied by the typical Portuguese paving. A well spotted photo opportunity very well realised.

Hello Craig
A fine shot from this hidden gem in Porto. Of the two, I prefer this one. Nice graphical effect of the pattern on the ground. As Luciano points out, this is something you would expect to find on a beach. The row of buildings makes a perfect backdrop for the scene. Fine work:) TFS.

Hello Craig,
Whoever came up with the idea of placing the mattresses in this square managed to create an ever changing living installation. It could be called a kind of spontaneous modern art. With those dark lines this square was nice even before, but the green mattresses, and the colourful persons they attract, help to create a great sense of depth. And it's fun just to watch it in any case. The narrow, somewhat decayed buildings provide a fine background. The WS is perfectly all right too, but I prefer this one for the less dominant shade and for having at least one person facing me.
Best wishes,
Gert

Hello Craig,
A really nice photo of this square with a large monument and some appealing fa軋des of some pretty narrow houses in the background. Cool to see these mattresses and pillows in the middle of the square. It was certainly a nice day to take a little nap there.

Bonjour Craig
Quelle bonne id馥. Quand on sait que le tourisme est tr鑚 fatigant surtout lorsqu'il fait aussi chaud qu' Porto en 騁. Le regard suit bien les lignes au sol ce qui donne de la profondeur l'ensemble.

Hi Craig,
Those lines create strong perspective. Quite fascinating place with typical small Portuguese tiles and classic buildings in the background. And certainly these people relaxing on mattresses give easy going mood. Yes, this is better than the WS, thanks to symmetry.

Hello Craig,
Tremendous perspective with an interesting and repetitive array of green mattress like structures being enjoyed by a few people enjoying the sun. The bg statue is well placed at the vp. Tfs!

Ciao Craig
Saluti

Hello Craig, and glad you liked my photo in the latest critique you posted, thanks.
The pattern of the pavement added good sense of depth to the place, as it turned to be an urban "beach"...
The palm trees and the beautiful houses of old Porto, beautifully rise on the background.
Have a nice weekend,
Ike
