Photographer's Note
This column looks out upon the Rossio which is the popular name of the King Pedro IV Square - A large square in the Pombaline "downtown" core of Lisbon and the square itself has been one of its main squares since the Middle Ages. The Column of Pedro IV seen here was erected in 1874.
This photo almost needs to be made smaller for a complete view.

Bonjour, cher David,

Hello David, the historical column is placed centrally on the frame, Lisbon appears majestically with its old houses in the bg, fine colors, good image quality and excellent light, instructive photo note, regards.

Hi David
haha, I know this view very well as I've been to Lisbon twice in the past couple years. you captured wonderful sight lighting, it really does enhance the scene. and best of all, the column statue up top is ABOVE the hill line, making it so easy to view as it stands out alone in the sky - I think that's very important. great shot. cheers

Hello David,
I applaud you on choosing this fine viewpoint, where you were able to get a tight crop on the street, create an excellent sense of depth and place this column and statue so well in the frame. The column has been perfectly judged so that the king stands proudly against the sky.
The light is glorious.
MY warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello David,
I had not recognized Rossio on this picture.
Wonderful view with the many houses built on different levels.
The light gives the photo a dreamy atmosphere.
Best regards, Paul

david
pedro IV was in fact the first brazilian emperor.
this sculpture has a curious history. in the napoleon times they imposed a king to mexico and after he was killed france send to mexico a sculpture paying homage to him, but mexico didn't want the sculpture and france not too. the sculpture was closed in the middle of the way, in lisbon port and after portuguese used it as if the personage was pedro IV. nice perspective showing the famous monument. Pedro IV ( first in brazil) has an amazing life history.
PS: thanks by the link of your drawings.
take care
jorge
