Photographer's Note

The is a picture from an upriver punt on the River Cam, Cambridge. Punting is great fun and a favourite activity for tourists and residents alike. However, some people have the knack and some people don't and the river is usually pretty chaotic with poles and punts all over the place.

The bridge is the Bridge of Sighs, at St John's College. It was designed by a former pupil, Henry Hutchinson and built as part of the New Court at St Johns between 1826 and 1831.

The bridge is named after the bridge of sighs in Venice over which prisoners apaprently used to sigh as they were led to their death. This bridge has bars on the window to make sure students can't escape!
