Sheldonian Theatre

An iconic building of the University of Oxford is the Sheldonian Theatre. It was designed by Christopher Wren and built in the 1660s. It was named after Gilbert Sheldon, who was chancellor of the University and Archbishop of Canterbury and the person who financed almost the entire sum of almost 」15,000 for the building. The building is used for concerts, lectures and University ceremonies. The right hand side shows the Clarendon Building, another University building, built between 1711 and 1715.
