Photographer's Note
Another picture taken while browsing the many exhibits in Glasgow's Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. The beautiful sculpture of a nymph is "Syrinx" by the Scottish sculptor William McMillan and it was voted the best sculpture of 1925 by the Royal Society of British Sculptors.
But I was more captivated by the "mature" (probably of my own age!) visitor and what I saw as a rapport between him and the pretty subject he appeared to be photographing.
ISO 800, 1/8 sec at f/5.6, focal length 40mm.
Please click here for a larger version of this photograph on "beta" TE.
For those interested, I have added, as a workshop image, a photograph of Salvador Dali's "Christ of Saint John of the Cross" which was the painting which most inspired me during my visit. Painted in 1951, it was acquired by Glasgow Museums shortly after that and has been displayed ever since, apart from during a period of major repair and restoration in 1961 after a visitor attacked the painting with a stone and tore the canvas with his hands.

Hello John,
This was a nice moment which you spotted well and managed what I guess was a quick shot with excellent colours and light management. The photo has a storytelling quality that I like. I wouldn't be interested in the photo that man took, but this is delightful, not least thanks to his red shirt. In this case a lady in red would not have been the same.
Thank you for commenting on my latest photos earlier today. I fully agree that they are not technically perfect. ;-)
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello John,
A great encounter between artwork and art lover, the juxtaposition of the man in his bright red shirt and the sculpture illuminated by a warm light is really excellent. The grand museum architecture makes a great setting, for instance the chequered floor tiles are a very nice foreground.

Hi John
good to see another new photo from you John. Forgive my ignorance on this one...but when you say it was voted best sculpture of 1925, do you mean IN in 1925 or FROM 1925? Meaning was this a recent vote or a vote that was cast back in 1925.
Glad this man was wearing an orange shirt, if he was wearing a similar tan colour as his pants he'd be almost invisible hahaha.
I do like how the statue seems to be playing it up for him, teasing him a bit, daring him to photograph her. And her stance is slightly turned into his direction as well. fun photo. Thanks for the WS photo as well. cheers

Hello John
Your presentation of today pleased me three times. At first the main picture, my favourite theme: 天isitors at an exhibition, but looking closer I recognize the museum in Glasgow, which I visited about 15 years ago. The lovely Dali picture in the workshop was the third surprise.
Excellent work
Have a good Sunday. Groet Rob

Hello John,
I liked the photo of Dali's masterpiece and I think it deserves the main upload. Is it really a painting? It looks more like a photo of a sculpture, anyway, the upper part of it. On the other hand, this one is about the interaction of art and man. It seems that the girl is looking at the man in eye catching shirt, but is he looking at her? The sculpture is beautiful but rather in old style.
Have a nice sunday

Hello John,
Good to have you back at TE. You've been missed. I also prefer the Dali's Masterpiece shot & it is actually a very good photograph, considering the difficult and challenging conditions you took it under. In this upload I like the contrast between the old man's baggy, wrinkled trousers and the smooth contours of the female statue in the bg. Tfs.

Hello John,
There is no denying the man's red shirt is a real eye-catcher and it makes a lovely contrast with the white marble of the sculpture. You have framed the shot well, nicely capturing the moment. Perfect technical realisation. A well observed and perfectly presented composition that blends daily life with art.

Greetings, John.
I'm welcoming myself back to TE (how long will it last - who knows?) gently with my pick of the best shots from the last few days, and yours stood out largely by virtue of the old geezer and his bright shirt. I must confess I've got a weakness for shots of other people taking shots, and I think this one works very well. The 92-year-old nymph seems to be looking straight into his lens, and the light beaming on to the floor makes for a warm, soft highlight. Nice work.
Regards,
Andrew

Hello John,
Your WS picture is taken out of a height, gives a rare position but a good picture.
The main picture is an excellent position of the man against the statue in background.
Yes the man has also my age I think !
Sharpness and clarity be very well photographed.
Very well done, TFS.
Best regards,
John

Hi John,
charming scene showing a young and beautiful lady being watched by the old man :)
His red orange T-shirt attracts even more attention than the beautiful girl.
I like very much the well balanced exposition here. Your photos of interiors are fantastic!
Very well seen and captured.
Quite encouraging to visit Glasgow!
