Photographer's Note
Golan Heights is a part of Syria occupied by Israel since 1967. Curiously it is the only part of territory of that country that is safe. Israel tried to give back the territory to have peace with Syria and after they refused this Israel annexed the area, but this isn't recognized by UN. We crossed the area during an afternoon. Here we can see an old tank, transformed in a monument. There was a group of army buildings at side.

Hello Jorge,
This large tank is not a very welcoming view for people who visit the area. You captured it very well though, nicely placed next to the sign. The light was fine as well.

Hello Jorge,
It's not a pretty view but a reminder of this sad conflict still going on after 50 years.
Kind regards,

Hi Jorge
wow, not too many people can say they've been to Syria in these times - even if it is the safer area and for a short period of time. Very interesting, I wonder how you go there and decided to go. wonderful TE post. cheers

Hi Jorge
When I was in Umm Qays in the far north west of Jordan I could hear the distant rumbling of thunder. Problem was there wasn't a cloud in the starry sky. Turned out it wasn't thunder at all, but the Russians bombing ISIS targets in the Syrian section of the adjacent Golan Heights, which is still part of Syria. The tank here reinforces the sad current history of the region. Tfs!

Ol, Jorge!

Hi, Jorge,
This is very unusual photo for the TE. Is it Merkava tank? I have never visited Golan Heights, but I know that story with the permanent war conflict between the Arabs and Israel.
Good journalist work!
Best!

Hola Jorge,
Saludos cordiales.
Maria-Luisa.
