Photographer's Note

The Vimy Memorial Band Shell was built in 1937, and dedicated September 1, 1937, with the intention of reminding every citizen of the battle fought 20 years earlier at Vimy Ridge, The actual dates of the historic battle were April 9 to 12 of 1917. During this battle, southeast of Calais in France, Canadian Forces experienced their most extended casualties up to that time: 10,602 servicemen of whom 3,598 were killed and the remainder wounded. Lest we forget!

The Memorial was built in Kiwanis Park west of the Meewasin Trail on the left bank of the South Saskatchewan River, in the Central Business District.
