Photographer's Note

Horse and buggy rides are a popular way to see the town of New Hope. With a lot of ice and snow on the roads, this fellow and his friends are enjoying some time off. Most of his friends were near the fence waiting for handouts, but this fellow was content to just relax in the sun. I was really attracted to the way the sun was shining on his coat because it appeared to give him a glow.

To my knowledge, this horse is a Percheron. These horses are prized for their pleasing dispositions, intelligence and working ability. Percherons range in height from 15 to 19 hands high, with most ranging between 16-2 and 17-3 hands. They can weigh up to 2600 (1179 kg) pounds with the average around 1900 (860 kg). This is a very versatile horse with the strength to pull heavy loads and the grace and elegance to pull a fine carriage. Percherons can also be ridden and some have been known to make fine jumpers.
