Photographer's Note

Walking along California coast is a great experience. Unfortunately, one has to drive far out of great towns to find a not too crowded, not fenced, not tool type, and pristine place. Dimensions, freshness of ocean breeze, and the light, which is often of exceptionally beautiful quality, hard to be bitten by any other place of this world, make every fiber of my soul and body enjoying this world. Such is a place some ten, twenty miles north of Santa Barbara, where a geological battle for dry land is in its full swing.

A wide angle lens close to the ground makes perspective. Matrix metering, circular polarizer filter, narrow aperture for DOF. Scanned by Nikon CoolScan IV-ED. By masking off (hand painted mask, feathered 50 pix, average) the rest, the sky was made a bit darker (Curves) and unequal lightness caused by circular polarizer filter and/or lens vignetting was corrected using clone tool. Resampled to 800 pix width; 'mask invert' to mask off the sky; using 'Lighten' brush (round 15pix, soft edge 80, transparency 50%, amount 10) the foam of the wave was lightened manually; unsarp mask 50%, radius 2pix; using 'Sharpen' brush (radius 100 pix, amount 1, transparency 100) some stones and see water pools were additionally sharpened.
