Photographer's Note
Life on Mars
At the end of the afternoon, after several hours driving we arrived at the Painted Hills, located near the village of Mitchell in central Oregon and one of the three units of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument. As the name suggests, the hills are named for their colourful layers, which were created in different geological eras. The Painted Hills are one of the Seven Wonders of Oregon.
This photo was taken just outside the actually area of the Painted Hills, but the hills showed some amazing colours already as well. The red soil of course reminds one of the red planet, Mars, and inspired me for this title, also because we visited two other 祖elestial bodies on Earth later on as well and of course because of the Bowie song.

Hi Lars,
amazing scenery. I like American National and State Parks, there are so many places like this where you can hike and enjoy wonderful nature.
I don't think I have ever heard about this one, but again it is because I never really ventured much north.
I really have to revisit US and explore this part of the country. I just wonder if the weather is often like this over there. I suspect you were extremely lucky with the sunshine there.
Amazing colors, great series of photos.
Excellent work,
M

"Painted hills" is the perfect name to this natural reserve, Lars, the red soil is wonderfully shown under the bright sun.
The small valley must have water sometime during the year, as vegetation grow in beautiful green.
Have a nice sunday,
Ike

Hi Lars
I had planned on visiting the painted hills of Oregon and Yellowstone, but both places were under 7 metres of snow by mid November, so I found alternate places to visit. There are many in the south west of the USA too. Gorgeous warm cold color contrasts and superb sharpness and framing. Tfs!

Nice to see Mars has life.
Love the lines and colors. Clever idea to relate it to Martian landscapes - the colors really seem right. Great place for point of view, low enough to add more emphasis on the curved mounds and colors. Well done.
Do we have a spot for Mars on TE. Maybe TM. You traveled far for this photo.

Hi Lars
yes, here in the Pacific North West, almost every photographer is aware of these Painted Hills - yet I have NEVER been here, but I will have to change that. Too bad I couldn't have gone down here with you and your father - that would have been a sweet trip. glad you added the MAP feature. If this is mars, they have plant life :) love the colours, and the blue sky to really give it a strong contrasting element. beauty!
cheers

Song title reference alert here, Lars. Maar de titel klopt helemaal. Mooie foto, mooie post. Bedankt.

Dag Lars,

Lars, amazing arid landscape seen in central Oregon and reminding the planet Mars. No vegetation succeeds in growing on these hills. It is as if the red soil was inhospitable. Fine colors, good image quality and excellent light, instructive photo note, regards.

The red color of the rocks refers to Mars, but the green is typically earthly :)
A beautiful picture of this amazing landscape

Hi Lars
That's an amazing unusual vast landscape! Isn't nature wonderful. Love the colours and the lunar landscape effect. Very nicely composed shot in great light, I love the perspective the lens has given to the length adding an extra dimension to the scene. it's well balanced colour wise, by the green shrubs and spotless blue sky. Excellent shot, Congrats
Best regards

Good morning Lars,
Amazing shot of these Martian hills. The colour is stunning and the composition you captured is very effective.
One sometimes thinks the US as a place where you visit the artificial "monochrome" sites created by the modern world. And yet, there seems to be such wonders to dicover.
TFS. All the best.

Hello Lars, isn稚 nature wonderful?
Excellent sharp shots of the Painted Hills.
I remember visiting the Badlands many years ago and being captivated by that region.
Now I have the Bowie song going round in my head!
Thanks for sharing, regardsJean.

Hi Lars,
It is very strange landscape. Rusty tones alternate with light grey on those desert dry hills. Good to see some green enduring the climate.

Hallo Lars,
Fascinerende wereld!
Vele groeten, Paul

Hi Lars.
Wow ..... what a fascinating landscape, it certainly seems from another planet with that diversity of colors in its lands, the green of the sparse vegetation is a beautiful contrast.
A magnificent range of colors, in some tones, very attractive.
Good management of brightness and sharpness, which enhance the details.
Very well done. I love.
Have a great day.
Very best regards.
Luis.
