Photographer's Note

AYMINY (A Yorkshire Man In New York) is a series of shots I took on a short visit to New York.

This is my My 12th post.

I am also posting shots on my TrekLens site.

This shot (with perhaps too much sea and sky for some - but I like it) was taken as the tour boat was turning up to head under the Brooklyn bridge - which can just be seen on the right.

Manhattan...

Native American Indians knew of this island long before any Europeans arrived in America.
The Mohawks called it Ganono, meaning 'reeds', probably because of the reedy marshes that surrounded it.
The Delaware indians name for the island was recorded in numerous forms, Manados, Manahata, Manahtoes, or Manhattos which is the one that stuck.
It meant 'island' or 'hilly island'.
The Dutch settlers picked up the name and used it.
The rest is history.
