Photographer's Note

AYMINY (A Yorkshire Man In New York) is a series of shots I took on a short visit to New York.

This is my My 16th post.

I am also posting shots of New York on my TrekLens site.

The following has been taken from the net...

In the 19th century ice skating and sleigh riding, ensured that more people visited Central Park in winter than in summer.
For example on Christmas Day, 1859, Central Park reported over 50,000 visitors, most of them skaters.
The western portion of the lake there was reserved for females and became known as Ladies Pond.
Ice Skating became popular with couples, since it was one of the few acceptable ways for men and women to hold hands in public.
In modern times demand for skating was such that Wollman Rink (1950) then Lasker Rink (1966) were constructed.
