Photographer's Note

One of the most intriguing things about he Grand Canyon i.m.o. is the fact that normally you can see a mountain range rise up from the ground. This is like standing on top of the mountains without having to climb. The hole you look into (the level where the Colorado river flows now) is 1500meters / 4500 feet below! All cut out by earthquakes (literaly the earth cracking up) and the elements. Our helicopter pilot (photo's from this trip coming up!) told us the layers you can see, are the oldest exposed layers of rock in the world. The Colorado river still deepens the valley, but with only 3 centimeters per 1000 years!! Not something our generation will notice. How humble and tiny are we (people) on the entire time line hey?! ;-)
