Photographer's Note

This is yet another photo from Mont des Art in Brussels. This is an area transition between the 爽pper and 鼠ower city. There are many museums theatres and historical monuments here.

The name of church in the background is Saint-Jacques-sur-Coudenberg. The church is in neo classical style and was designed to remind of a Greek temple with six Corinthian columns. It was inaugurated in 1787. The cupola was completed in 1849. During the French revolution it became a Temple of Reason, and later a Temple of Law. In July 1831, Prince Leopold of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha took the constitutional oath on a decorated stage in front of the church. This made him Leopold I, the first King of the Belgium. The interior of the church is plain but solemn.

The building to the right belongs to Royal Museums for Fine Arts of Belgium and houses the Magritte Museum. The museum contains is the world痴 largest collection the well-known Belgian surrealist Ren Magritte (18981967) works. Many of his masterpieces could be seen here.

In the middle of the fountain in the foreground there is a sculpture called Whirling Ear (not seen in the picture) by American artist Alexander Calder (1898-1976) famous for his mobiles. The sculpture was originally made for the US Pavilion of the 1958 Brussels Expo.
