Hello Kasia, Oh, I do love these two portraits! Despite what you say about the poor light, you have done an amazing job here and, although both portraits are very contrasty, nonetheless we can see detail throughout both images, not only in the deepest shadows but also in their brightest parts. Although she was very shy, this lady has a wonderfully serene demeanour and appears very relaxed - you must have that innate ability to put your subjects at ease! And, of course, I do like the portrait of her husband, Malang, who looks to be a very fit and competent guide. And, of course, nice to see a snapshot of the gathering of supplies for the trek into Pamir. Wonderful! Kind Regards, John. P.S. Another one for my favourites! :)

Hello Kasia, Firstly, you should make no apology for the quality of your photographs - in my opinion they are always excellent images of good quality and, more importantly, of very considerable interest. I appreciate that you couldn't have got closer (because you were stuck in a moving vehicle) but this is an excellent scene capturing these women and children outside their home. Your note gives us a fine simple explanation of some of the ways of the Ismaili people and is also well complemented by your two workshop shots of little wayside shrines. Thank you too for your longer video clip - we don't see much of the surrounding area but we do see these guys' futile attempts to get their Land Cruiser going - as someone who has always had a love affair with motor vehicles, I suspect that the problem was a partially blocked fuel filter - that would explain why the engine "fired up" satisfactorily, only to die a few seconds later. Pouring more (probably dirty) fuel into the vehicle was probably not the answer! Excellent! Kind Regards, John.

Hello Gert, If only every photograph could feature an elegant "lady in red" such as this! And she's perfectly placed in the frame too and heading in your direction. A very well composed shot giving an excellent view of this major street and the rather fine and well cared for buildings on either side, not to mention the "three mothers", each with their own brood! And a fine workshop photograph including the famous mosque too. Your note, as always, is excellent and there is no doubt that your scanning and editing skills have greatly improved too. Excellent! Kind Regards, John.

Hello Gert, Together with your excellent note these three images and your previously uploaded other two make a wonderful presentation. And of all five images, I think your choice of main photograph was just perfect with this solitary figure, pacing determinedly across the frame with no other distraction than a glimpse of the walls of the mosque above the high wall behind him while he is an almost monochrome figure save for his blue hat. Superb! Of course, the wider views of the mosque are all excellent including that of the ramshackle market stall built about a tree and also the mud-brick archway outside the mosque. All excellent photographs, very well taken and very expertly scanned and presented. Wonderful! Kind Regards, John.

Hello Gert, Another truly fascinating note and a fabulous main photograph too! You have captured this scene of the womenfolk gathered around the well in early morning perfectly, the main characters and the well perfectly sharp and clear and with excellent bright colours while the architecture of the town, in softer focus in the background, can still be very clearly appreciated. Your two workshop images, though lacking the striking impact of your main image, are excellent too considering that they were both taken in poor light and in difficult conditions. Excellent! Kind Regards, John.

Hello Gert, I take a few days' leave from TE and discover that you have uploaded another dozen or so photos (including workshops!), so I have some catching up to do. Another three fine photographs, very well taken, very well scanned and processed and very well presented too - and accompanied by your usual fascinating notes. I can imagine that you must have been quite hungry even after your rather meagre meal of left-overs and I can also imagine that a wander around this place did not have a huge amount of interesting things to see and examine other than, of course, that always fascinating pastime of people-watching. Your previously uploaded (in 2013) photo was obviously taken nearer to the mosque but I do like this wider view in which the people do not actually look that terribly poor - and one fellow on he left appears to be wearing quite western clothing. But there doesn't seem to be a lot of activity going on. I like your workshop #1 which I presume is of part of the old fort and which also benefits from some fine images of people quite close up. And your aeroplane for which you were fortunate enough to be chosen as a passenger. Excellent! Kind Regards, John.

Hello John, An excellent note and a thoroughly magnificent photograph of this beautiful part of Bruges. Your composition is both classic and also very pleasing to the eye with the lines of the water's edge on either side providing perfect "lead in" lines, perfect framing from the tall building on the left and the tree on the right in bright green foliage, while the viewer's attention is drawn to the glorious reflections in the calm water of the canal. Perfect exposure and exquisite details and sharpness as always. Beautiful! Kind Regards, John.

Hello John, Thank you for giving us such a detailed history of this magnificent and very old church which has seen some considerable changes over its long lifetime. Because of Covid-19 the whole area looks incredibly quiet but you also chose a beautiful day on which to take this very fine photograph: the sunlight is beautiful, your colours are rich and the elegant church stands out beautifully against a deep blue sky. Superb details and sharpness as always. Beautiful! You take care. Kind Regards, John.

Hello John, I have never heard of a "beguinage" before but I presume that is a type of nunnery. In any case, you have written a fascinating note about this place and also shown us a beautiful photograph. The light and colours are wonderful - bright sunlight and glorious rich colours and a fine composition too. And there are some lovely contrasts, yet we can see lots of detail even in the most shaded areas - like where the man is standing at the end of the walkway looking towards the bridge. Beautiful! Kind Regards, John.

Hello dear Malgo, This looks to me to be the sort of place where people used to say you could buy anything "from a pin to an elephant". Your note is wonderfully descriptive and your three photographs give us a wonderful flavour of this huge bazaar. A two kilometre covered street! Your main photograph shows us just how busy this street is - no evidence of any social distancing here! And it's a fine colourful and detailed photograph too. Workshop #1 is an excellent image of one of the stalls or shops with a fine array of different artworks and wares but workshop #2 of the two men playing some sort of board game is absolutely charming! Three wonderful photographs! You take care. Kind Regards, John. xx
