Hi Otto,

I really like the way the middle section is highlighted and the symmetry is perfect and the sharpness is very good as well. I am sorry to come back to lighting conditions but this is something that interests me a lot. The central part is unfortunately slightly overexposed. Personally I would have tried to go a little bit nearer in order to limit the darker areas to the left and right and at the bottom or used the flash (the small one on the camera). I think that the sunlight would have been stronger anyway and the reflections from the dark wall would have not too strong. It would only have meant a little more light on the candle-sticks. TFS and have a nice day!

You make good points, Ulf, and I had thought of that while there (flash), but generally, flash in such places is not allowed, and I am a law-abiding citizien (even if nobody is watching).... At a different time the lighting might have been more even, it's just that at this moment, a bright ray of light hit the very center of the altar. In a way, it was evocative, but the camera's eye is not as good as the human eye to capture this. It just looked awesome...
Thanks for the visit, more to come
PS: here is a view of a chalice in the treasury of Melk:
