Great pablominto 2010-11-07 23:51

Hello Beverley,

It looks like they had an affection for building piers in the past, obviously they were mostly meant for pleasure!
This point of view works well as the sky makes a fine backdrop for the contrasting structure...
The really old piers were usually wooden constructions, so I guess the Saltburn Pier is of a newer date compared with those on the South coast..!

Default To pablominto: Saltburn Pier

Saltburn Pier was built in 1869. The walkway is wood but the supports are metal. It's just a guess but it's likely to have been iron originally from the 'new' Iron works at nearby Middlesbrough.
