Photographer's Note
This is a Cob de Buffon we met very close from a huge Elephant group made of about 200 units in the Waza National park
This antilop is about 70kg and is curious but quite shy. It was attracted by our pick up but we never could get really close without frightening it. It was about 10:00 AM when we met him. It was part of a group of ten roughly and he was the more curious.
Earlier in the morning, close to a water point, we met a group of 3O Cobs. They were hidding in the bushes and were far more difficult to meet.
The Waza park, north of Maroua, is 170 000 ha and has a good reputation. Even though, it is said by specialist that today, the Bubba Njida park located south of Garoua could be far more interesting. This park was erected as a reserve by the French administration in 1934.
The Waza park is presented as a touristic highlight by everybody but there is an incredible lack of infrastructure and means to make it a decent destination compared to other African countries. Only a small part of the park roads are maintained so it is a great experience to visit but also a highly exhausting one.

Hello Steven,
What a beautifully composed image; you've captured a fleeting moment, inthe life of a fleet-footed creature. The colors and sharpness are superb, as is the accompanying note,
Warm regards from Virginia,
Bulent

Another sweet catch, this time with
a really pleasant strong colours of
the grass.
These animals are truly fantastic and
fast - there was a good documentary on
BBC yestrday, about a bloke who introduced
new techniques of filming wild cats...
... I think these were in there as well, of
course, being chased by cheetahs and other
cats...
