Photographer's Note
A closer view of the 2 more intact statues on the right. There is another duo of Ramesses II to the left but the head has fallen off that one. I was attracted to the yellow blue colour combination of the man at left, standing out against the mostly sepia tones of the rock. He also provided scale. The 4 statues were built 12901223 BC to commemorate Egypt's victory over the Hittites at Kadesh, near Lake Homs on the Lebanon / Syria border.

An interesting photo of the original 1968 location of the statues which is now underwater in Lake Aswan.

Hello Chris,
This is probably the most famous sight of Egypt I didn't see. My schedule didn't allow going that far south. The statues are well known, but the man makes the photo unique. He adds a good splash of colours and, as you say, explains the size of the statues.
Regards,
Gert

Majestic two giant sculptures from the past, Chris, impressive sight and well scaled by the person alongside's.
The ancient Egyption inscription superbly shown in fine sharpness.
An intriguing location, if there was peace - I'd definitely go and see.
Good afternoon,

Hello Chris,
Because of the colourful tourist that you have so beautifully positioned on the left side of the photo, we can easily estimate the enormous size of this more than 30 centuries old wonder of the world.
In addition to all the ruins that we know of ancient times, it is very special to see how intact these statues still are.
Excellent work
Have a nice day, groet Rob

Hi Chris,
This is an amazing place and I am so glad I had a chance to visit it.
I have struggled a lot with the fact that there were so many people there but then I realized that it is what it is and may be I can just take a distance to minimize their impact or like you did here: use the person either to add some color or feeling of scale.
Excellent reportage,
M

Hello Chris,
This is a fine exposure, showing the details on these variously sized statues with excellent clarity. The hieroglyphs on the large statues' arms and torsos look like early examples of tattoos!
Yes, the inclusion of the man dressed in yellow and blue was a good idea for the reasons stated.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Chris,
A good sharp photo showing how huge these statues are. The person for scale is necessary for this, but he also provides a bit of colour. You were there at a good time because the sun is at a good angle to show up plenty of detail, and the shadows provide a sense of depth.

Hello Chris, the colourful man is a key component of this shot. We know that the statues are enormous but the man emphasises this fact.
The sharpness is excellent, the hieroglyphs are very clearly visible.
Thanks for sharing, kind regards, Jean.

Hello Chris,
When I visited Abou Simbel there were crowds of visitors.
I remember being slightly disappointed with the interior of this temple. All my life I had seen many pictures of the outside and imagined a lot about what it could look like inside ...
This photo is excellently limited to two of the colossal statues and the beautiful hieroglyphs at the bottom.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Chris
Very nice shot of this historical monument, has all the warmth of Egypt in it. The man in foreground adds perspective certainly gives it scale. A good record record shot.
Best regards
