Photographer's Note
This is another shot I took of the dead trees on Galu beach. I have uploaded a shot of this particular tree before, taken on a different day at a different time - HERE

Hi Rosemary!
A great stillife created by mother nature and well captured by you.Your low POV and these clouds add good depth and I like the texture/curvy lines on the wood.
I was curious about a B&W version and tried a WS.
But anyway,excellent shot!!!

Rosemary
A truly stunning image - I can't think of anything else to say - the clarity and detail and sharpness of this is incredible. I suppose a purist might say you should have placed the horizon on the upper third but then you would have lost the sky.
Amazing - well done.

Hello Rosemary,
these oddly shaped tree branches make a striking graphic effect on the light coloured beach.
Perfect sharpness provides superb textures on wood.
Strong image, bravo

Hello Rosemary,
I knew this was yours and I remember critiquing your previous shot. The dead wood seems far from dead; each of the pieces takes on its own shape, its own form, its own identity. Together, they are planning an assault on beach goers! Yes, they seem to have a malevolance!
Fine textural details on this very well composed shot, displaying fine light management.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

I don't know what to say about this one, Rosemary, other than to clap. Amazingly well-realized image - the clarity and detail are stunning, but the most incredible facet of it is the light. Just perfect - from top to bottom, bringing out the branch itself, illuminating the wet sand without adding glare, and allowing just a few very faint rays in the upper half from the cloudy but bright sky. Outstanding photo.

Hi Rosemary,
Oh Yes!... Sublime dead tree, for its tortured shape, but also for all the texture you have captured in the foreground. Gorgeous!
I appreciate the low angle that feature the contrast between the even sand and the contortions in the twisted branches. The moment of the day and weather conditions you have chosen to shoot that subject are dramatic and suits the subject perfectly.
Excellent work Rosemary!

Hello Rosemary Your picture reminds me of sea lions on a beach in Australia many years ago.
A very different take of still life I have seen recently. Wonderful sky.
Best Wishes Gladys.
P.S. Thankyou for your kind comments on my `Maize Field.

Hello Rosemary,
More great 'beach artwork' from you. The weathered tree has such wonderful flowing lines and the almost monochromatic look is perfect. I note the small discussion on the positioning of the horizon. I like breaking the 'rules' of photography so I have no problem with the way that you have presented it, especially as the main subject is so strong. I might have thought about nipping a bit off the top to get rid of what looks on my monitor as a small area of over-expousre. However, that is being exceptionally picky and in no way detracts from this being a super picture.
Excellent work - thanks so much for showing this.
Best wishes, Ann

Really, a marvellous photo subject. I like a lot the composition of this one with a strong feeling of depth in the picture thanks to the wide angle lens and close point of view, opening then on a far horizontal line.
Good also is the rendering on the texture of the wood. Adding interest in this natural artwork.

Hi Rosemary.Powerful image. The texture of the wood is astonishingly detailed. looks like rolls of skin that has been shed by some primeval creature. Very creative, superbly composed and expertly shot. regards. Klaudio.

Hello dear Rosemary
Your series on this dead tree is spectacular, worthy of any magazine - and this photo just about tops it off. I must admit however that the B&W vertical photo is my favourite, but this one comes close. The textures, particularly in the FG branch are to die for and I love the smoothness of the sand and how it contrasts with that magnificent sky. The clouds, the low POV and the wide angle combine to make a formidable and unforgettable shot.
Congratulations and I hope you have a lovely Thursday

A wonderful photo, Rosemary. The thumbnail looked b/w, but in fact the range of tones is very subtle. The details on the smooth wood, the low viewpoint, the expansive background with its very gentle highlights, all add to the melancholy atmosphere. While it's true that all things must pass, these 'dead' trees look far from passed, thanks to their beauty, and your judicious composition.

Andrew

Hi Rosemary
just as you never tire of my Greek shots, I never tire of your shots like this. Words fail me in trying to desribe how wonderful this shot is. The atmosphere and technical quality of this image is just superb and a testament to your ability to create images of indescribable beauty and enormous appeal. Hence the reason people want to "snaffle" them. The fg lines and detail are just exquisite. Wow! Rosemary I love it! & want it in my gallery!!
Warm wishes - Brian.

Hello Rosemary,
A well considered a title with which you so kindly remind us of our own mortality and the ephemerality of our own dear lives! Thank you for that, Rosemary.
But this is a wonderful photograph - so well seen and taken. This is not a snapshot: this is a picture which has been considered at length from the moment you saw this dead tree, explored it, took a variety of different viewpoints, moved back and forth, composed the picture in the viewfinder, checked camera settings, re-composed and took the picture (or several). Then studied the images on your computer screen and ever so carefully edited it and went over it with a fine-toothed comb until you were eventually happy with the end result. No. Not a shapshot. Definitely not. I can tell.
And all that work has paid off for this is a stunning presentation with perfect light and shade, wonderful textures in the dead wood, water, sand and sky and lovely muted colours. And, of course, stunning sharpness and overall technical quality too.
I love this picture but, if I had to say what I find the single most attractive part of this whole image, I would have to say that it was the slightly understated but absolutely sublime little pools of crystal clear water around the dead tree parts on the left - simply beautiful!
A Stunning Photograph!
Kind Regards,
John.
P.S. This just has to go into my favourites!
P.P.S. Ooops, I think the link in your note is either broken or isn't working. Still, I suspect that I can recall the picture to which you refer!

Hi Rosemary!
The other one is good, but in this one, the sky makes it even more dramatic. Seems taken from a fiction movie. I like the composition and the PP - the light is very good here!

a truly breathtaking picture. In particular, the structure of the tree in the right part of the picture is very unusual. All in a nearly monochromatic light - beautiful.

Hi Rosemary
It shows you the different aproach to our subjects, this is a piece of fine artwork as the dead tree trunks as main subject made up of line and shapes which are worth a liitle study on their own. Great anticipation here and yes, the smooth sandy beach and the background sky work a treat which adds a lot to the image as well. This is creative work surprisingly in richer almost mono colors revealing the beauty and vivid details standing in stark contrast to the atmospheric sky. A fine shot in every way, colour, compo, content and interest. Well done, TFS

Greetings Rosemary!
Wow, superb lighting management! I love the atmosphere, colors and the ambiance in here! Those soft and dark pastel colors are really soothing and kinda relaxing to the eyes. I love the texture of the clouds as if they were earth's soil in el nio times, in which hint of sun rays are bursting through. Very beautiful picture! Great work!
You really did use f22 in here? how about some GND filters?
Bravo!

Hi Rosemary,
These dead trees are like and artwork in themselves and your image brings this natural sculpture to life.. Nice low angle and the textured clouded sky adds that extra dimension too and with the filtered light bringing out the grain of the wood.
Nice!
