Fishermen, a photo from Flacq, North

Photographer's Note

This picture was taken in Mauritius.
In a way I like it for the old fashion way of fishing (the man in the back is pushing the boat forward while the men are throwing the net out of the boat,the man in the front is scaring the fish by hitting on the water with the stick)
The Only thing that is wrong with this way of fishing is that these local men are fishing under a coral riff.
And gusse what.
When you go snorkeling you find out that the entire corral is destroyed.

Thats alot of people moving about on that little boat! Very nice picture. I like the silhouette of the boat and people and you caught the opportune moment as he reaches out with that rod. Well Done Ishai.

I like the subject matter and also the different contrasts achieved here - the reflective sea against the subdued skies, the silhouetted fishermen against everything else.

Excellent shot Ishai. A wonderful blocking as I can see the outline of each on eof the. The sparkle in the water adds drama to this picture. Very very good.

I like your picture very match. It seems black and white, but the sky is a little tinted blue. The silhouettes stand well out and the reflexions on the water are so may diamonds!

Wonderful picture. Although a color picture it has the look of black and white with good contrasts between the light in the water and the silhouettes. The silhouettes are great.

In one word...sparkling ! I'd crop a bit of sky and a bit of water and make it a wide, landscape type picture.
I'm also quite intrigued by the colour of the sky - it's pretty grey for what looks like a splendid sunny day. Is this because of the angle you took the picture? Were you facing the sun?

This is a great shot, the fishermen silhouetted on the ocean completely makes the whole picture, the water reflections add dimension to the shot and the sky is the perfect background. overall a truely exerlent photograph!

Magnifique contre-jour et int駻essantes silhouettes des personnages en ombres chinoises.
En plus nous avons un petit reportage sur cette ancienne mani鑽e de p鹹her. La composition avec la barque sur la gauche donne beaucoup de dynamique � cette vue.

Fantastic Photo!

Great composition, very well captured.
I think the only small thing, stopping this shot from being PERFECT is the horizontal being slightly off.

Quelle magnifique photo. Ce contre-jour est parfait et les silhouettes se d騁achent bien les unes des autres donnant de la vie � l'image. L'homme pench� sur l'eau avec la perche en diagonale dirige le regard vers la partie droite de l'image. Cela contribue beaucoup � l'attrait de la photo.

wow, thanks for telling us that it wasn't manipulated in any way. When I first saw the picture, I tried to think about what you did in photoshop to get the water so shimmery.

Nice one Ishai - tthere is something almost comic about this shot as if they are all engaged in propelling this one man to go and hit the fish and gather them up!

The destruction of the coral is a bad thing for these short term gains but who knows how they have to live their lives otherwise - there must be better answers.

As I love silhouettes, I love your picture. I like teh perfect contrast and the opaque fishermen contrasting against the shiny sea. I also love the grey tones. It only seems to me that the picture is a bit tilted. Regards, Yvonne

Stunning image, you have captured the light and silhouettes perfectly. A real shame about the coral reef, but a beautiful capture of real life.
