Photographer's Note
It is hard work getting lost in the souks of Marrakech and at the end of the day you need sustenance. The most popular area for food is the main square - Djemaa el-Fna.
All around the edges are restaurants but at night a large section of the square gets transformed into dozens of street food stalls patronised by both locals and tourists.
To see what this part of then square looks like during the day go to the wrokshop.
I actually took this photo from the upstairs balcony of the Caf Argana which was unfortunately bombed in 2011. The balcony provides great views of the area at night as well as cooking up great food. (Moroccan with plenty of flavour unlike some very touristy restaurants).
Best in the large view.

Hello Ian
Great atmosphere in this night shot with all the bustle and activity by the locals as well as the tourists. Lights all around making it cheerful and vibrant. Nicely exposed with good clarity.
Cheers!

Bonjour, cher Ian,
Entre les deux photos, c'est le jour et la nuit (expression souvent utilis馥);
La nuit, la place devient vivante et grouille d'activit駸 diverses. C'est beau voir et contempler.
Bravo pour ces pr駸entations.

Hello Ian, Splendid night shot of this incredible place Jemaa el Fnaa. Marvelous view of all these stalls and the people. Visiting this market in the evening is a must for every Marrakech visitor. Fantastic composition, colours and sharpness. I was there almost thirty years ago with the organized tour. It was my first trip to such an exotic country. All the people were afraid to go around.
Have a nice weekend

Congratulations on a happy news :).

Hello Ian,
A great night shot of this large square full of market stalls. Amazing lighting with some very nice and warm colours among the cooler night tones. The picture conveys the busy mood very well here.

Hello Ian,
Not much risk of getting lost here, but when I first read about this place in the 1970's it was regarded as a place to get ripped off. Maybe through the decades it has become more streamlined, with snake-charmers and pickpockets driven away by the authorities for the protection of package tourists. All the lights and the crowds create a fine atmosphere which you captured well in a nicely composed photo.

Gert

Hello Ian,
What a transformation, not only in the content of the square but in the atmosphere, too!
This is so much more interesting then the daytime shot because of the spectacle of the lights and the people.
You have done an excellent job of relaying this scene, in mood and details, despite the difficult light.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Ian
A beautiful night shot of a famous place and a photographic goldmine... cant fault it. If we could smell the spices it would be better! This is such a cool shot - an endlessly engaging image with high drama, first class. Congrats

A very nice souk atmosphere, in the evening it is not so hot and then the souk is lively and crowded, an interesting scene, well captured from an elevated POV

Hello Ian,
Its a very good nocturne, illustrating how popular and crowded is this place in the night. Food must be good.

Hello Ian
A little bit noisy in the big picture but perfectly acceptable at normal resolution. I bought a cheap orange juice at that same stand! Good blue hour shot of this famous square with excellent sharpness. Tfs!

hey, nice interpretation of the classic marrakech market shot, certainly looks alot more orderly these days, the back of the sign in the foreground is distracting though...

Hi Ian,
lovely blue hour souk photo.
I wanted to write that I am glad you named the location of the POV but then you wrote it was bombed...
Very photogenic spot, I considered it seriously for this year but I picked something less ambitious.
Great reportage,
M
