HUNTING HIGH AND LOW, a photo from Khomas, South

Photographer's Note

Windhoek is the capital city of Namibia and probably the most clean African town. Germans ruled this land for some decades, time enough to left marvelous buildings, Germanic habits and a terrible way of dealing with the natives (something that Apartheid regime and Nazis learned and improved).
At side of the fort and the main cathedral we can find this colonial monument paying homage to the victory of the German soldiers over the native tribes in the beginning of 20th century.
Many people think this kind of monument should be removed, but in my opinion it is the portrait of the history.
PS:According with my friend Rosemary, this monument was removed last December to a place inside Alte Feste Fort.

Os alem綟s governaram estas terras por algumas d馗adas, tempo suficiente para deixar belos edif兤ios, h畸itos germ穗icos e um legado de sofrimento extremo para os nativos (algo que foi aprendido e aprimorado pelo regime do apartheid e pelos nazistas).
Primo da catedral e do forte est� este monumento prestando homenagem aos soldados alem綟s que derrotaram duas tribos que se desentendiam, isso no in兤io do s馗ulo 20.
Muita gente prefere que este tipo de monumento seja destru冝o, mas em minha opini縊 � algo que deve ser conservado, afinal � o retrato da histia.

Good Morning Jorge - You will be interested to hear that the South West Rider was quietly removed from his perch overlooking the city under heavy police guard on Christmas Day 2013. The statue now lies within the walls of the Alte Feste. In its place we now have a memorial to all those killed by the Germans during the colonial wars.

I was undecided about the removal of the statue as it was a city landmark and part of the history of the country. However, I read a book which I recommend if you are interested called The Kaiser's Holocaust: Germany's Forgotten Genocide and the Colonial Roots of Nazism which opened my eyes to much that when on in fairly recent history and I am now of the firm opinion that it was right that the rider be removed.

As to your shot. I love the way you have composed it using the lamps as a framework within which the rider is well placed. An original composition and one which I have not seen before.

Reading both your note and Rosemary's note, realized you taken a pic. of a statue that not presented anymore.
Maybe an historical justice to local people.
Anyhow, You chosen a fine POV and with the addituon of the lamp-posts - created a nice compositiuon.

Me parece bien que la estatua haya sido sacada de ese lugar estrategico convirtiendo a tu foto en historia
Buena y original captura y contraste de colores

Aca habia frente a la Casa Rosada un gran monumento a Colon y la loca de la presidenta lo hizo demoler, quedo por el piso, grandes quejas de la comunidad italiana , pero ahi siguen sus restos
