Photographer's Note
The 'Bushmen' or San people are the oldest inhabitants of southern Africa, where they have lived for at least 20,000 years. Their home is in the vast expanse of the Kalahari desert. The Bushmen are the remnants of Africa's oldest cultural group, genetically the closest surviving people to the original Homo sapiens 田ore from which the Negroid people of Africa emerged. Bushmen are small in stature generally with light yellowish skin, which wrinkles very early in life.
They are 27000 in Namibia, 55000 in Botswana and 10000 in South Africa
Only 20 000 have kept their ancestral way of life, as hunters-gatherers
They only own what they can carry along, using poisoned arrows for hunting and transporting water in empty ostrich eggs
To learn more about them just watch the old movie "Gods have gone crazy"

Hello Patrick,
Informative image and photo. The word "Bushman" is being frowned upon these days. Fact is that they occupied the whole of South Africa before they were driven out into the desert areas by the southward migration blacks and, later, also by the northward migrating whites. So to say that whites took the blacks' land is a lie. Most blacks in South Africa and Namibia are under the impression that they were here first and that the land belong to them. Not so! The San, and then also the Khoi, were the first occupiers of the whole of South Africa and Namibia ... and probably of the rest of Southern Africa.
By the way, the correct name of the film that you refer to is "The gods must be crazy". I know the producer but have not seen him for many years.

Bonsoir Patrick,

Hi Patrick. People and especially their portraits are the pinnacle of photography. The Bushman is a wonderful portrait study. The open and friendly face makes the man very syphatisch. Total outstanding.

Hi Patrick
Direct, warm smile, humorous and wise. It's a rare gift to get this degree of rapport with a stranger and you appear to have captured all the emotions. An excellent natural portrait, one of the amazing people in the Kalahari, and I cant help but smile when I look at it, remind me of the movie sometimes ago. What a happy face, a real character and a previlage to have witnessed. You've done a great job of taking his portrait. TFS
Kind regards
