Photographer's Note
Here are some camel traders with their beasts, photographed at the market in the centre of Hargeisa. Camels are THE animals of the nomadic Somalis and much of their folklore (mainly represented by songs and poems passed orally down through the generations) has a relationship to camels.
They are used for transport, milk (Somali viagra) and meat.
The nomads often dye their hair with henna, once they are growing grey, as this was a practice associated with the Prophet (peace be on him).
