Photographer's Note
En route from Windhoek to Bangkok we had to transit at the Oliver Tambo International Airport. I am impressed with various design aspects of the new Central Terminal Building. This shot shows a section of the ceiling. According to the architects brief it is intended to allude to aerodynamic symbolism.
In preparation for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the Airport Company, South Africa, upgraded and enlarged the Oliver Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg. The development included expansion of the international terminal, with a new international pier, which houses the new Airbus A380 and an increased capacity. The new Central Terminal Building, designed by Osmond Lange Architects and Planners (cost: 2 billion South African Rand) has boosted capacity at the landside of the terminal in 3 levels, also allowing direct access from international and domestic terminals. Additional luggage carousels have been added to accommodate the Airbus A380.

In October 2006 the country痴 flagship airport was renamed as a tribute to one of the new South Africa痴 most important founding fathers.
Oliver Reginald Tambo, fondly known as O.R. by his peers, is renowned in South Africa and abroad for his significant contribution to the liberation of South Africa. He was president of the African National Congress (ANC) for 30 years and spent much of this time in exile, mobilising international support for the ANC and opposition to the apartheid movement.
Tambo has been described as the glue that held the anti-apartheid movement together during its toughest struggles. He was a relentless lobbyist for South Africa痴 freedom. His efforts helped create awareness of the plight of black South Africans, which eventually led to widespread international embargoes.
On 24 April 1993, Oliver Tambo died from a stroke, having fought for the freedom of his people for the best part of his life.

Hello Rosemary,
This is a nice photo of modern architecture. That long curve dominates the picture and leads our eyes to the bottom where the light gets in from the windows nicely.
Good job!

Hi Rosemary - a fine angle and great to see a familiar building - You have taken it from a great angle- I presume from the road near the car park..
Good cropping and well presented.. Have a great day. Rich
PS bet its a bit warmer than here- although we are having a "heat" wave at 12 degrees - but better than minus 17 as we hit in Dec. R

Hello Rosemary,
I like the bold framing that you chose for this capture in the airport.
The forms of the architectural elements are very dynamic and graphical, and the good management of the exposure has created a good balance between lights and shades, which make a very attractive image.
En excellent composition.
Best wishes,
Josep

Hi Rosemary
My compliments to your approach and ideas! normal everyday object but with your creativity and keen eyes, you are able to tranform this daily life object into something artistic and brilliant graphic image. Fantastic shooting angle with great depth and perspective, strong lines, repeats and shapes, very geometric. Spectacular details and sharpness. Fine exposure under natural light with good clarity and contrast. Colour is marvelous too. Splendid shot, Congrats. TFS. Best rgds

Hi Rosemary,
Such a fine photo of this interesting building. The curves are quite the feature, worthy of photographing. I like the different tones created by light and shadow. The lights at the top of the photo serve as another colour feature. I like it a lot.
