Lines of Gold, a photo from Abu Dhabi, West

Photographer's Note

Usually I don't bring my telephoto lens with me out on these long trips, its just too heavy of a lens and I don't use it that much anyways.

Well, I was glad I brought it along this time, it was used a lot more than I thought.

Here is another photo taken at the beautiful Mosque in Abu Dhabi, but this time with a little bit of an abstract flare. I was zooming in when I noticed this worker way down at the other end of the Mosque. He became the focal point of my scene and I'm glad he was making his rounds.

Personally, I loved the bright white marble and the shine it produced because of the sunlight, what a magical place this is. I wish I could go back!

Very nice and interesting capture from Abu Dhabi with good pov and layout; perfect graphism and interesting notes. I do fully agree with you, sometimes one can achieve perfect results with a handy. This is a good sample.

The foreshortening of the perspective occasioned by the telephoto results in an interesting graphical composition with the columns seemingly coming closer together the further away they are. The man is well placed and is a key element in the success of the composition. Excellent clarity.

This must have taken your breath away!
It is magnificent! And, what a photographer's dream, with all those pristine, repeating columns and arches, decorated and gilded!
You have been able to capture the shiny textures of the floor tiles, too.
The inclusion of the figure, so well placed, helps with the perspective.

Holy Gold Leaf Batman! This is some shot Craig, and the more you share of this amazing mosque the more I want to get on a plane and go see it right away. You mentioned that the place is huge and this photo does a brilliant job of rotating that size, the columns seem to go on forever. Great timing to get the man in the shot too, as he gives a really useful sense of scale and makes the size more impressive. This is a stunningly beautiful place, if there is a heaven, I bet the corridors in it look like this. Really cool,

Amazing vision of this modern mosque seen from the inside. The diagonal perspective created by the repetitive columns creates a powerful image. The delicate floral designs and the golden palm leaves on the capitals give a lovely artistic touch and contrast with the immaculate white upper part. The human presence adds an element of interest to this otherwise static scene. Very nice work.

Fine effect of the archade with a returning pattern on those culumns.
A bit too strong light glare from the white shining marble, which you offset well withnthe shaded part under and inside the place.
The man stroll along gave good scale on the whole.

A composition pride with this closed flat on part of successive arcs, this elegant mosque, I like the diagonal, which create those golden capitals, perfect those cream colors dominate the whole, the person we see walking, gives us great the grandeur of the place.

Hey Craig,

Don't leave home without it...check! I know what you mean about packing extra gear, but it sure was a good thing you did for this beauty! Having that kind of range with the lens plays right into the strength of these patterns. This would also make Goldmember quite happy to see as well..."I love gollllllllld! :)

Key to include the single man, his presence puts a stamp on the sheer scale of these bad boys, what a cool shot amigo. Well worth the effort to pack the "extra" lens. Amazing exposure balance too, that can't be easy with so much stark white and high contrast under the sun, but this looks sharp and defined. Bring on the next one! :)

well, this is what I believe you would call crisp.
A really clean and concievable compo in 2 colors (almost). Some strong lines and a pattern lost in perspective. And a guy. That could be the janitor.
Really cool shot of a very impressing place. They know something about aestetics in the Middle East.

Beautiful pillars, by themselves they would make boring subjects but your composition brought them to life especially with man which also provided scale. They look like soldiers marching off to the distance. Good details even the marbles which is hard to do. Well done, tfs.

the glow produced by the strong light reflected on the pure white marble must be mesmerizing, especially when you are surrounded by it and can see magnificent architectural features through it.
