Photographer's Note
Asserballe church is located high up on a hill in a tiny village of 400 inhabitants in the Danish German border region. The church is a remarkable, very unusual and interesting cruciform church. The oldest part of the choir dates from the 1100's and it was originally one of the typical lime washed field stone churches that are so characteristic for Northern Europe. But when this region became a part of Prussia in 1864, this peculiar gable, built in the style of the "Historismus", which adopts historical architecture elements, was added to the otherwise unpretentious building.
The church is famous among writers. It was in Asserballe the Danish author Herman Bang was born in 1857 of a noble family, the son of the vicar, a relative of Grundtvig (In the Church of Denmark no man has exercised a greater influence than Bishop N. F. S. Grundtvig, 1783-1872).
In his novel 典ine, published in 1889, Bang wrote of life on the island of Als in the aftermath of the battle of Dybbl in the Second War of Schleswig which resulted in the traumatic loss of 20 % of the Danish territory.
Bang's works earned him renown as a leading European impressionist writer. It was Claude Monet who told him after meeting him: "Monsieur Bang, you are the first impressionist author in the world."

Hello Harriet,
Curious a church with shutters !!! Here is a beautiful Sunday papagolfade, the architectural details are interesting and well emphasized on this photograph where clearness is appreciable. I notice that the neighbourhoods of the building are well maintained. Pretty glance and thank you for the instructive note.

Hi Harriet, fantastic shot! I love that low POV and the sky is superbly exposed. The red roof contrasts so well with the sky. Nice work, and I wish you a very happy Sunday and week, Lisa.

Hi Harriet,
You have found the perfect POV here, I can inagine that you were walking here in front of this very typical Danish church, trying to establish a good position. And here it is. The long line of the roofs and gable on the left side could not be better. I find it a bit dark, but this might just be the usual matter of taste... I tried a WS and hope you donエt mind.
Greeting from a very rainy Gothenburg

Harriet,
This is a nicely composed shot showing this fine church from an angle that gives the scene depth. The side lighting is nice drawing our eye to the brighter sections of the church. The foreground is a little dark and could be lightened in PP to reveal more detail.

Dear Harriet,
It's a beautiful sharp image and an excellent POV.
I like the architectural style, the many sharp angles along with the steep gables make an attractive sight.
I had a look at the lighter version in the workshop and agree with the change. To my view your image is a little dark, particularly with the foreground, but that is just a matter of personal preference.
Another of your interesting notes, an enjoyable read.
I hope you have a lovely week.
Warm wishes

This is a fine point of view to show details in the architecture!
I notice the interesting design without sign of any tower except the facade...
Well framed with lovely colours, good angle of light and I can agree with the WS but I guess that is a matter of screen settings too..!

Hallo Harriet

Gut gemacht.

Hello Harriet,
Your note locates well the geographical and historical context of this church. The photograph in light low-angle shot is very agreeably built. The whiteness of the frontages makes the building quasi luminous. The light and the colors are natural. Good realization. Cheer.

Hello Harriet,
A good shot of this church with interesting architecture. The low POV makes the church stand out well from its environment against the sky. Good colours and clarity. The foreground looks dark, but I guess it was also rather dark already, when you took the photo. The photo details are not shown though for some reason. As always an excellent note. Thanks for sharing!

Harriet,
Another beautiful image. Even though it may seem a bit dark, but I like it this way too. The workshop images are great, but this one gives us an essence a melodramatic mood, which sometimes we do feel that way. Charming church and good quality.

Hello Harriet
As always your notes are an education for me. Quite a different architecture for my eyes, for a church, the red tiled roof contrasting very well with the blue sky. The light seems to be mellow and that adds to the picture by adding pastel hues to the white wall. Well done!

Hello Harriet, Perfect low POV to capture this beautiful old church. The white is well exposed with the red roof contrasting well against the blue sky. I also felt it was a little dark, I must admit I like Gunnar's version. A beautiful image just the same with excellent colour & detail. Hi Harriet,
A magnificent picture with this beautiful Danish church. The colours and lighting looks very natural to me. I could agree perhaps that the grass might be a bit too dark but otherwise I perfer your version compare to the brighter in WSs. I am not very sensitive for tilts and I am often of the opionion that it could improve pictures and that you should not avoid exiting POVs for such reasons. Here you have a perfectly vertical line through the gate, between the two windows and through the clock. Exactly the choice I would have made myself. TFS and have nice evening!
Warm regards,
Ulf
