Welcome to the Rockies

I guess it is time for my first photo in my new North American series. Last week, my father and I flew to Calgary in Canada and drove from there in a couple of days to Vancouver. This took us through the Canadian Rockies, but we were pretty unlucky with the weather and it rained a lot, so there were not many opportunities to admire the scenery and take a lot of photos. We値l be back in Calgary at the end of our trip, so maybe we will have some time to see more.

Anyway, this photo was taken at the viewpoint along the Trans-Canada Highway in Banff National Park. It offered a view of the of Castle Mountain (or Miistukskoowa in the local Algonquian language), which has got an elevation of 2,766 metres. There was just a bit of sunlight when I took this photo, so I guess I was lucky, although nature photography is not my specialty.

Eerst maar even een sprongetje naar deze foto. Malta moet maar even wachten. Per slot van rekening was ik ook al je buurman toen je deze prachtige foto nam.

Great scenery of the Rockies, it has all the elements of a great landscape. A bit of foreground interest would not of gone a miss which draws your eye straight into the image. Lovely touch of green patch and textural detail on the gigantic rock strengthen it. Lovely shot.

Calgary itself has a few sights to see too, but in good weather, Banff, Lake Louise and Jasper are all are jaw dropping. Watch out for bears. A nice capture of the fog shrouded butte. Tfs!

Du hade ju tur att molnen sprack upp lagom tills ni kom till den h舐 platsen. Tr臈en i fgrunden och molnen som snuddar vid bergstoppen skapar en fin atmosf舐, kanske lika bra som str虱ande solsken. Det 舐 tillr臘kligt bra ljus f att vi ska kunna se alla skrovligheterna p� bergssidan. Det 舐 en bra bjan p� din nya bildserie.

I'll be posting my 20th Malta photo in a few minutes, and yes, its about 4am local time hahaha, so you know what that means :)
these shots always look so good in the large format, it doesn't disappoint at all. if it were a clear day, well, then you wouldn't have the effect of the clouds, so both offer something unique. This scene reminds me of a painting, looks great.

The trees are a natural frame of the mountain. The point of view is showing the details of the Castle mountain. The light is enhancing the colours. Have a nice day.

Hi Lars,
That looks quite iconic mountain rising high above those tree tops. Light is greyish but lighter tones on the cliffs and that steep meadow look just right. I like those short branched spruces, they remind of those found in northern Finland.

Mighty Castle Mountain sight from a fair distant point, enable to include its full view, Lars.
A stunning earth formation, imposing even when the sky were cloudy - but still enough light for a great photo.

Hallo Lars,
Misschien hadden jullie niet het gewenste weer. Maar op deze foto komt dat mooi uit met de enkele wolken die rond de toppen slingeren.
Een eindje verder vinden we eeuwige sneeuw.
Op de Castle Mountain zelf heel wat loodrechte wanden maar toch ook een stevig hellend alpenweitje.
Goede diepte met de dennen op de voorgrond.
Weerom een spannend Noordamerikaans avontuur.

Hello Lars, beautiful picture as the beginning of the new series. Fantastic view of this high rock behind the spruce trees. With the clouds hiding the top, it looks mysterious. Banff is the place that i would like to see somewhen.

Hello Lars, I have some catching up to do! Now we leave Malta and we are thousands of miles west! The scenery couldn稚 be more different.
A lovely view of Castle mountain. The sharpness allows us to see its� many features so clearly.
The cloud adds to the special atmosphere of the scene.
You say, � nature photography is not my speciality�, in my opinion I think that you might be mistaken!

What a beautiful picture of this rocky mountain !! I love the way it's surrounded by the clouds on top, the slightly snowy peak on the right, the elegant grassy slope in the middle ground and the fir trees in the foreground. Great capture !
