Photographer's Note
The Basler Herbstmesse or autumn fair is one of the oldest fairs in Europe. The first one was held in 1471 and thus is held this year for the 542 time.
The fair consist of several different parts such as a trade fair, a aniques fair and a wine fair. But most important for the almost 1 million visitors to the fair is the amusement park. It isn't a amusement park as such but rather different places in the city that are transformed for 2 weeks with rides from simple old style childrens carusells to the wildest rides such as a 66m high free fall tower.
Especialle the place in front of the Basler Mnster that during most of the year is one of the quietest places in the city, offering a great view over the city is transformed in a place of fun and laughter. Here we see a wave swinger contrasting with its neon lights to the serene Basler Mnster, built in 1091.

Hallo Daniel,

Hello Daniel,
This is a strange and unexpected view. Do the leader of the church really like this? The contrast of the dark walls of the massive, old cathedral and the shiny, colourful and probably noisy merry-go-round is striking. It's interesting to notice the reflections of the lights on the church fa軋de. It's a well taken photo which captures both features in a good exposure.
Best regards,
Gert

hi daniel,
this picture really stands out, even in the smaller thumbnail version. the spinning wheel is so dramatic and bright; you have captured the speed and movement of it perfectly. lovely colours in the background building.

Hi Daniel,
Love this picture. Have placed simular one like this as well but not with this striking background and no tripod so my time exposure was limited. very nice composure and looking forward to see a lot more very nice pictures.

Salut cher Daniel
I love this photo. It combines two of my favourite subjects: the funfair and historic buildings. Excellent vertical frame, although it would have been preferrable to include the tops of the church in the photo, this is a small matter and does not detract from the photo. The sense of movement and light from the funfair is wonderful Fantastic light management and colour, with an impressive lack of noise. Thanks for sharing.
Have a wonderful evening

Hi Daniel
Your 2 seconds shutter effect turns this wave swinger to look like a high speed spinning top to me, while the rest remainded static as we get to enjoy the old buildings in the background as excellent reference of loaction. Tks to your sturdy tripod, lighting is warm indeed but so well exposed and certainly contrasts well to the night surroundings. Very cleverly spotted subject and techunicall well done. Congrats. TFS
Kind regards

Hi Daniel
yes, Gert brings up a very interesting point in his note.
seeing such a subject infront of the church makes me wonder how does the church feel about this?
very odd!
Too bad we couldn't see the entire subject inside the frame because its so attractive with its spinning lights and motion blur.
interesting, colorful, and well done with the 2 sec exposure.
enjoy your day

Hi Daniel
That is a unique view! The beautiful church in partial shade in the background, and the bright lights and dizzing spin of the fairground ride make surprisingly great bedfellows. It gives a great feeling of speed, and makes me happy I am not on board!
All te best

Beautiful exposure - the combination of the whirling ride and the old cathedral is a great one, and I like how the building itself is lit by the lights of the ride. Two seconds is the perfect length for this, keeping the definition in the spinning wheel while giving it plenty of movement.

Hello Daniel
What a fantastic shot, congratulations. I love the juxtaposition of the modern whirly gig against the historic and ancient building behind. You have managed the difficult lighting conditions with aplomb and the long exposure has given a wonderful arc to the lights. All up a great shot complemented with very informative notes
Thanks for sharing

Good morning Daniel
This is wonderful! The light and the sense of movement really makes it for me. I like the way you composed this image to fit the Munster in and leave a bit of the carousel out. This way you encourage the viewer to imagine what is there, out of the frame.

Excellent exposure and timing. The spinning lights are softly illuminating the old church in the BG so beautifully. Superb POV, great job here Daniel!!
