Second picture
Horseman
I'm almost every week in Bruges, sometimes twice.
The carriage with two great horses caught my attention.
I'm not a beer drinker, so I do not make advertising for my beer brand.
In fifteen minutes could not be more picture taken there because all the tourists wanted to take a picture with their children beside to the horses.
I don't know but I think a publicity stunt of the brewery, but two lovely good maintain horses, and a specially coachman.
History of the brewery OMER
The roots of our brewery date back to May 1892. It was a time when every brewer brewed its own special beer. It was no different in Bellegem, a rural village in West Flanders within a stone痴 throw of the French border. In that same year, the first barrels of "Ouden Tripel", what is today called "VanderGhinste Oud Bruin", rolled across the cobblestones in Bellegem and were renowned as far as French Flanders.
The fact that the brewery has been continuously in family hands from its early start to the present has become a rarity.
Influenced by the new "Pilsener Type" from Czechoslovakia, the brewery develops its own type of pils under the name "Ghinst Pils". That痴 why, in 1929 the construction of a low fermentation tower was necessary.
The year after its construction the tower was already operating and now still dominates the rolling countryside of Bellegem. From the highway that connects Kortrijk to Tournai, one can clearly see the tower rising next to the church of Bellegem.

Hallo John,
Mogelijk vergis ik me.
De rode kar is echt in het oog springend.
Ik kan me voorstellen dat heel wat kijklustigen hier een foto van wilden.
Mooie haarscherpe voorstelling van deze paarden.
Vele groeten, Paul

Dear John,
Twice a week? You are a lucky man. :) Nice genre, the focus point is just in the right place, the 85 mm 1,2 draws well as I see.

Hello John,
Yes, the beautifully groomed horses and the cart make quite a statement in a modern city! You have some extra fine details, too, in the bowler hatted men, in their pin-striped suits and of course, the playful dog!
A shallow dof works so well to show the details of this group and set them against a useful but oof b/g.
We have beer carts, like this in England. It does help to advertise the product with much photographing and, it maintains an old tradition which many would be unaware of!
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello John,
the horses look very strong, groomed and lovely. The perspective and the framing of your picture are excellently chosen, not only the picturesque carriage but everything around it is well placed and interesting too. The people fit in effectively and create a great sense of balance. Depth, textures and colours are superb. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a good night,

Hi John,
The tight frame is putting the carriage and horses in evidence. The point of view is showing the details of the carriage and of the horses. The light has a good effect on the colors. Have a nice day.

Hello John,
I have never heard of this traditional blond. The most amazing here are the white boots of black horses. Hiow they are shining, they are well cared for. I have never seen such kind of horses. beautiful red coach that transport beer. Lovely this small dog. These two guys in gray suits also look interesting. strange but a part of the picture seems to me unsharp. Why? Nice composition, great colours and excellent also the portrait of the horseman in the Workshop. You are lucky to be so often in Bruges!

Hi John,
It's a rare sight to see such sturdy Belgian horses. And as such makes excellent advertising. Also that wagon looks very traditional and stylish. Wide aperture leaves the wagon driver out of focus range.

Hello John,
This may not actually be a glimpse of ordinary daily life in Bruges, but even as a publicity stunt this is very nice to watch. The horses with their characteristic furry hooves are just beautiful and the red carriage is very eye-catching. The coach has a very nice little companion. In every way this is a pleasant view and a well taken photo.
Kind regards,

Hello John,
the pair of magnificent horses and striking bright red carriage make a eye catching picture although the smartly dressed man in front would appear to be more appropriate in a funeral corsage, not delivering ale!
Best wishes Les.

Hello John,
Fine capture of this impressive pair of dray horses with their cart and handlers. Tight framing puts the accent on the subject. First class light management results in excellent colours and clarity. Coincidently there is a brewery in the small town of Faversham in Kent, United Kingdom, still in the hands of the same family and which operates a dray cart pulled by horses like this and their handlers also wear bowler hats!

Hello John
I remember trying some of this beer when I was in Flanders years ago. I like all Belgian beers actually. Sorry to hear you don't drink it. Perhaps you do eat the chocolate though.
The photo shows the detail of the horses' harness very well, especially in the larger version - I like the narrow depth of field which makes everything else a little blurred. They are beautiful horses. Well done.

Hello, John,
Funny scene indeed, outstanding photo, perfect technical quality. I am not so big expert of horses, but this kind of the horses is not typical for our region and I can see them in the foreign countries only.
Well, good advertising of the beer brand.

Good evening john and thanks for your note on mine.
A well fit Breton-horses that have wonderful white legs, to their black fur bodies.
Than, I look at the outfit of the carter and the two men escort. Wonderful tourists attraction, well positioned on photo.
I know almost nothing about beer, did learn there is an "Omer"...

Hello John,
An interesting note about the history of the Omer brewery and a very fine photograph of this beautiful pair of heavy horses pulling a brightly painted dray. And a wonderful workshop image of the bearded driver of the dray dressed in traditional garb.
It is nice that you managed to take these shots before the scene became crowded with other visitors. You have very cleverly used your 85mm lens at full aperture to take advantage of its shallow depth of field, so concentrating on these beautiful horses and throwing the background very pleasingly out of focus to avoid any distractions.
Good light, fine vibrant colours, perfect exposure and exquisite details and sharpness.
Beautiful!
Kind Regards,
John.

Hello John
You may be interested to know that the Young's Brewery in Wandsworth, London, used until recently keep some shire horses and drays, for marketing purposes mainly. Sadly the brewery was sold to Charles Wells Brewers a few years ago. I don't know what happened to the shire horses. So it's nice to see another brewery keeping up the tradition. I believe the old Oranjeboom brewery also used horse-drawn drays as an advertising feature.

John, this a wonderful "postcard" from Bruges! The quality of the picture in each respect is stunning and the a bit blurred background makes the horses wonderfully stand out. It's a real joy to look at this photo! Also the complementary photo inn workshop is worth seeing!

Hi John
So you venture out of the landscapes! Winter is coming and the horses have put the snow boots on! and the men going along are also very interesting.
I don't understand why you took this picture with a very high speed 1/500 s for a steady scene, maybe to take the best of the wide aperture f 1.8 of your lens to blurr the b/g?
have a lovely WE

Hello John, I just cannot resist commenting on these beautiful horses!

Hi John,
this is so beautiful! I like the shallow depth of the field here, everything in the back is still visible but with a subtle blur which emphasizes well the horses.
They are so beautiful and well taken care off. You captured them also in a lovely spot and with horsemen in nice poses.
Excellent work,
