Photographer's Note
I just had to post another one of these shots of Eilean Donan, how could I not?
I had actually planned to post a drone photo taken from the air hovering above the castle looking down, but instead I'll put it in the WS.
When I edited to down to the small TE size, it just looked way too blurry. Its too bad we can't post videos on here :) My video of the drone flying high above the Castle and passing it by is amazing. I was able to get directly above it and you can clearly see the little island the castle sits on.
I'm posting this shot because the lighting conditions are much better compared to my first post of Eilean Donan. This shot was taken the day after we did our self guided tour of the Isle of Skye. The route we took exiting the Isle of Skye lead us to this Castle, and the lighting was fantastic - so why not capture it again right?
For obvious reasons this is one of my favorite Castles we visited, and of course we did the tour inside as well. Hope you like it, and please take a look a the drone shot.

Hello Craig,
I saw this photo a while ago but I just had to wait for the promised drone shot. Starting with this, and the first WS, they are both superb photos. Not much imagination is needed to understand why you liked this place. It's a fascinating castle against a backdrop of beautiful green hills. Fine reflections and nice yellow sea weed (algae?) in the foreground. As for the drone photo it's obvious that the sharpness isn't perfect. But lots of people on TE would be proud to show a photo like that anyway. Within reasonable limits what a photo shows is more important than perfection.
I guess you know that you can easily post photos larger than 900 pixels. I'm not talking about 3000, which will require a gigantic monitor, but 1200 is a good size which many members use, including me.
Best wishes,
Gert

Dear Craig,
This a breathtakingly beautiful view! The rocks in the foreground helps to feel the size of the space. The colours very on a wide-range, contributing to the overall image. The clouds above and around the hill put the cherry on the cake.
Excellent!
Best Wishes,
Gy.

Ciao Craig
hai fatto un bellissimo lavoro con questo castello, compresa la foto con il drone, dove si ha una vista rara di questo luogo incantevole. La qualit della foto non ha influito sulla sua originale bellezza, per questo potevi mettere la foto in prima pagina.
Saluti

Hello Craig,
the drone and the two very different points of view from the ground make this a fascinating little series, a great presentation of the Castle and its surroundings. Each of your pictures has great qualities to praise, each of them can stand alone and looks so thorough. I like the suggestive dynamism of the reflections in the main post, the deep green tones and the significant yellow flowers in the first complementary picture, the fascinating view and the brighter colours in the drone's capture. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great evening,
Ourania

Morning here Craig, night at your side.
All three pictures, from above and other POV, especially this compo. has lots of natural different colors, with the main attraction, the fort and bridge looking as a nice complementary to the landscape. Combined beautifully, even as it was foggy and grey. Light condition managed well under those given condition.

Hi Craig,
Well balanced your presentation, the castle in a focal point of the photo, good complement with bridge and the large Fg with water and reflections, well made, pleasant to watch, tfs.

Hello Craig,
It is beautiful picture, better than the previous one. And how strange to me to see it with water around. looks so beautifully with the reflections of the sky and clouds. Nice ly composed with the mossy stone in fg. But far more interesting is this drone picture. it is something new. Maybe you could post the movie on FB or in youtube? I would love to see. As Gert, I think that with the bigger picture the impact would be greater. I post most picture in 1600 pixels. On my screen it fill it well - big picture and the whole one.

Hi Craig.
The most photographed castle in Scotland? I when I was a boy my UK grandmother used to send us shortbread in tins with typical postcardy shots of it on the lids.
I've stopped quite a few times to write a critique of a photo of the castle, and of course if you know anything about its history and look at my surname you'll be able to work out why! I've been there a few times myself, and found that no matter what the weather conditions one can find an angle which provides a dramatic photo.
Anyway, you found an angle to distinguish your photo from many others of the castle on TE. Castle itself is well positioned in the wide angle view, and the light on the water behind the bridge reinforces the arches. Great reflection and nice algal mucky stuff on the water.
Did you know the castle was more or less destroyed in the 18th century (see pics on this site http://www.eileandonancastle.com/about/history/ ), and was rebuilt according to the vision of a Farquhar McRae in the early 20th century?
I suppose you might have a McIntosh castle somewhere; I'll have to have a gander at your other Scotland photos.
Regards,
Andrew

Hello Craig,
Everthing it seem very quiet, we see almost no wind on the water.
I like your composition, and lovely to look at.
Also the bridge and arches are a lovely addition.
Your picture with the nice buildings in background is fantastic.
An excellent presentation.
Very well done, TFS.
Best regards,

Hi Craig,
the reflections on the water are assets to the composition. The length of the river is giving depth to the scene. the point of view is showing the details of the castle and of the bridge. The cloudy sky is giving a good contrast to the colors. Have a nice day.

Ciao Craig
I much prefer this photo than your previous upload. For obvious reasons. The light is so much better, the reflections are magnificent and the yellow seaweed is a highlight for me. Loved your drone WS, how heartbreaking that it wasn't as sharp as you'd have liked. But you captured the moment and that's what counts. An excellent addition to the beautiful collection of Eileann Donan photos here on TE. I certainly can see why it's your favourite castle. Did you ever get to the place where your family would have come from?
Cheers

Hi Craig,
It is a wonderful castle (although not that big). Of course it was worth another stop on return journey.
Wide angle fits well, as there's plenty of nice details also on the foreground.

Hello Craig
I saw Malgo痴 picture first. So it was a nice surprise to see your edition of this place. 5 year later and with high tide. Another interesting issue is the POV you both choose. You with a little more distance and much lesser sky. Fascinating.
And of course your drone workshop. That was 5 years ago still impossible.

Hi Craig,
Three fabulous photographs of Eilean Donan Castle of which the one I think I most like is your workshop one (taken with your "normal" camera) with the little patch of bright yellow daffodils in the foreground. The two camera shots are excellent, each perfectly composed and with lovely soft light, rich colours and exceptional details and sharpness.
Beautiful!
Kind Regards,
John.
P.S. Firstly, I realise the problems with TE all too well: your images never really seem to look that sharp on the "new" TE website but, when viewed at their "proper" size on "beta" TE, they are stunningly sharp. I note that you tend to upload images at around 900 pixels wide and perhaps this is part of the reason. I now tend to upload pictures at around 1200 to 1400 pixels wide - they fill the screen quite well on "beta" and they don't seem to suffer quite so badly when "new" TE shrinks them down - maybe worth having a try at that, Craig? But what I don't like with the "beta" site is that some people upload pictures at full size - i.e. something like 3500 x 2500 pixels - and you simply can't see all of the picture at one time!
Now, I know that TE doesn't accept videos - so why not try posting them on YouTube and just giving us links on TE in your notes so that we can view them? :)
Cheers,
John.

Hello Craig,
Beautifully reflected clouds and pieces of blue sky all around the seaweed in the water.
A very nice inclusion of the rocks on the foreground.
The castle and its bridge are presented from a good angle.
Pretty with the water under the arches of the bridge.

Hi Craig.
Fantastic composition of this castle as mythical, the picture has all the components to the success of the image, a great POV, with the high bridge over the lake and the view of the castle on the small island, the colors of the rocks and algae water, beautiful reflections and a sky that gives a touch of mystery.
Very good lighting, color and sharpness to enjoy the details.
Very good work. I like it
Enjoy a happy Sunday.
Best wishes.
Luis.

Hello Craig,
It doesn't matter how many castles you see (any of us sees!), there is an irresistible desire to see more!
This is a most beautiful castle and how dramatic it looks, sitting on its island with the reflections in the water, like those in a dusty mirror!
You have produced an excellent composure, the rocks for f/g interest, the water, or the bridge, for the link and the proud castle so strongly placed.
I love the drone shot, too. It isn't a bad shot!
How wonderful to be able to see how the island is connected to the mainland and how the castle is set out.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Craig,
A moody & atmospheric shot of the castle from the elevated pov of the drone. You were either lucky with the tides or ahead on good planning. It looks much more appealing at high tide. Tfs!

hello Craig,
fantastic the view of the place with the foggy backdrop to makes the whole scene an original Highland one.The tower and the old arch bridge and generally the environment go us back some centenaries ago.
The miniature of the visitors on the bridge and the created reflections enhance even more the beauty of the scene.Well done.
