Photographer's Note
M駻ida - Roman theatre
Since already a lot of pictures of the Roman theatre of M駻ida can be found on TE I present you here its backside :)
On the right side of the photo you see a small part of the seats of the theater.
The picture was taken at the end of a dark, cloudy winter day.
In the workshop a more classic presentation.
The Roman Theatre of M駻ida is a construction promoted by the consul Vipsanius Agrippa in the Roman city of Emerita Augusta, capital of Lusitania (current M駻ida, Spain).
It was constructed in the years 16 to 15 BCE.
Following the theatre's abandonment in Late Antiquity, it was slowly covered with earth.
The excavations of the theater began in 1910, directed by archaeologist Jos Ramn M駘ida.
But it lasted until the late nineteenth century before most of the building was excavated.

hi Paul
yes, its always important to try and search for new views of much photographed subjects!
good on ya to get this one, and it looks fantastic.
the lighting is dimmed, not too bright, not too dark which i like. Its also very attractive how the scene climbs high to fill out the frame. nice work
cheers

Hello Paul, Indeed, there are quite many more classic view of this theatre, like in WS, so it is the good choice to show us the classic in Workshop, to remind us, and original picture as the main post. It looks so well preserved so it is quite difficult to believe it was covered with earth and excavated. Beautiful composition, the people in the arch, palm, and first of all, wonderful grey marble columns above. I wonder it there are some performances held here. I haven't been to Merida, I had no idea that there is such beautiful antique monument there. The colours in the evening are fantastic. Winter? Doesn't look so. Nice idea to spend the end of the year in Spain.

Good morning Paul,
Magnificent view of the ruins, marble pillars seem as "emerging" from the ancient walls.
Appears like a big complex, so I can appreciate from the photo.
Great work despite low light conditions.
Have anice new day,
Ike

Dag Paul,
Mooie foto van dit indrukwekkende oude theater. Fijn dat er wat mensen rondlopen om de grootte van het gebouw te kunnen bepalen. Mooie skyline met 3 zuilen die elkaar net niet raken. Fijne antieke kleurstelling.
Geniet van de dag,
Huub

Hello Paul,
It's interesting to see the interior, but obviously that's the kind of photo everyone would show here. I prefer this one, not because it's more original but mainly because I think it's a better photo. The architecture seems more impressive from this side and the afternoon light has a very nice yellowish tone.
One fact that I always find a bit difficult to understand is how huge complexes like this could have been covered with earth for centuries and sometimes discovered by coincidence.
Kind regards,
Gert

Dag Paul,

Groet Rob

Hi Paul,
very interesting composition with two levels: ruins on top and people at the bottom.
Pleasant subtle light.
One of the Disney Princesses name is Merida (I have a little daughter) but it was a princess from Scotland.
Spain is really such a big and rich country...
Great reportage!

Hallo Paul,
Mooie en goede compositie van de runes van deze Romeinse stad. Het zachte licht en de natuurlijke kleuren zijn heel prettig, met name de warme gloed op de muren.

Hello Paul,
It is a very well maintained ruin, with so many details.
To be honest, I prefer your w/s view, which shows more variety, though I applaud your desire to find a new angle on something you have seen photographed before.
Photographically, this is a well composed photograph, well lead, sharp and with figures to explain the scale. The light is warmer in this shot, too.
Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Hi Paul,
Good pov and good frame to show a giant Roman Theatre, amazing that the surface of marble columns and stone walls are still looking good although two thousand years passing, nice WS photo too, well done.

Hello Paul.
An unusual approach to theater in Merida, the POV is sensational, with the external walls of the stage and the columns above views, bow background and palm trees give a good perspective.
Well managed light and contrast.
Good evening.
Greetings.
Luis.

Hi Paul
The people at left add scale and give an idea of the height of the Roman ruins. The pigeons perched on the wall add secondary reference points. Nice repetition of the columns. Tfs!
