Photographer's Note
Well, as most of you probably know by now, our TE friends Rob and Lars visited Vancouver for the second time.
I took the day off work and my wife Joanne met up with us later in the day. In case you're wondering, no that's not us in the photo haha.
This photo wasn't taken during our TE meeting, however I did take them here as one of our destinations for the TE meeting. That's why i'm posting it.
I'll add 2 WS photos of the three of us that Joanne captured on her cell phone.
I took Rob and Lars to North Vancouver because it was a place they've never been to before, and most tourists don't take the time to explore here if they only have 1 or 2 days.
This is THE SHIPYARDS. Its a mixture of industrial and commercial/tourism. As you can see in the main post, there is a large tall yellow crane, there are a few of them here. This is the area where they build very large ships, tankers, cargo ships etc...
Over the past 5-10 years, it has also transformed into a bustling spot for locals with new restaurants, new hotels, new museums and art galleries. Yet, still maintaining the current Shipyards and Industrial areas, its working well together.
This shot was taken at sunset, during a Food Festival which is held here every Friday evening, and its free. There are several food trucks, live music and lots of fun :)
You'll see the crane in the WS photo with Lars and Rob as well.

Hello Craig,
Really cool shot from North Vancouver. That was a beautiful evening as well with great sunlight and an attractive sky. You captured the people very well underneath the large yellow crane, which stands out so well from the clouds. I love the WS photos too, a great impression from our meeting last week! The three of us make a great skyline in front of the Vancouver skyline as well!

Hello Craig
It's great that you used Joanne as a secret photographer, so that the three of us are simultaneously on the photos in the workshop. In the second workshop photo you are even the tallest of the three of us and even without photoshopping.
This should actually be the main photo.
Excellent presentation
Have a good week, groet Rob

Hello Craig,
A perfect combination of warm light, dark sky, people, bright objects and an interesting environment. Your description of this area reminds me of the island where I live, which is full of trendy restaurants and caf駸, design hotels and even museums, and fortunately not visited by 90% of the tourists to Stockholm. As for the WS, don't worry about being the small guy. I met Rob and Lars too, so I know what it's like. ;-)
Best wishes,
Gert

The yellow crane draws first attention, than "discovered" the three of you...
My humor, Craig, all three posts are wonderful, WS when looking over Vancouver downtown is my choice on this mini-series.
Best regards,

Hi Craig,
You have captured well the actions of the persons. The point of view is showing the details of the big crane. The light is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

Bonjour, cher ami Craig,
Belle prise du vue d'une fin de journ馥, la grue donne une id馥 de l'environnement et de son importance;
J'ai beaucoup appr馗i les photos pr駸ent馥s en atelier.
Tr鑚 bonne journ馥.

Hi Craig
Well, I'm glad you mentioned it's not you in the photo, I was about to start thinking you had broken TE rules, now my faith in humanity is restored... ;-D
Seriously though, I like this shot, the crane really makes it special both for the vivid yellow colour (perfect on the blue-ish background) enhanced by the evening sun and the strong diagonal line which makes the images very graphic. People are just an addition to the crane, but an important addition, for thanks to their presence we know how big the crane is, and that this is not some spooky abandoned shipyard but a place full of life.
Talking of which... did you say "Food Festival!? I know where I will be going next time I visit Vancouver... ;-)
I really like this recent trend on TE of showing the photographers/travellers in WS photos. I do that too and it feels like sharing not just photos and the knowledge about the destination but also the actual experience of being there.
Best wishes
Kasia

Craig, good idea to convert partly that industrial zone into a commercial area. Nice view showing that shipyard. It s a playground for the teenagers, they add life to the scene. The tall yellow crane is eye-catching, good vertical framing capturing the whole machine.

Hello Craig,
I think the setting is a great place for photography.
I spent a lot of time on the harbour when I was in Brittany and, like you, could not resist the yellow cranes! Besides being a very interesting feature, it creates a near diagonal on you frame.
Those three figures make a good, animated focal point and, had you noticed, they seem quite unaware of the three figures behind them , whilst the crane, is slowly moving towards them! Oh, what a scenario for a movie! Ha! Ha!
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Craig,
It's interesting to see those young people hanging out in a spot that seems so industrial, but from your note I know that there is lots of cool stuff nearby. :-) I really like the lighting in this shot; the sunlight is shining on the people, while there are still some large clouds in the sky. The yellow color of the crane is also eye-catching. Great WS photos, too! :-)

Hi Craig, the main pic is a great idea, with the guys, the cranes and the wonderful sky,but obviously i prefere to see the photographers in action in the 2 WS. The pic watching the skyline in background is a masterwork talking about the prospect!! Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano

Hello Craig,
The people on the dock wall make this an appealing image despite the concrete and metal of the shipyard. I think it is the lovely light and the strong angle of the yellow crane that makes this such a successful image.
Kind Regards, Ann

Hi Craig
A new area of the city that you show us here, with friends Lars and Rob, in this main photo people seem to be sunbathing, sitting next to the big crane, which with its yellow color, gives a powerful role in the picture.
A magnificent color, which gives a lot of chromatic richness to the image.
Good lighting and sharpness management.
Well done. I like it.
I wish you a pleasant week.
Very best regards.
Luis.

Hello Craig I immediately thought of "Lunch atop a Skyscraper", featuring eleven New York construction workers lunching on a crossbeam atop the steelwork of 30 Rockefeller Plaza, during the construction of the Rockefeller Center in Manhattan! Their feet were dangling 260m above the streets! The picture was taken in 1932. A 'staged' photo for publicity by probably Charles C. Ebbets. I consider your diners appear rather fearful, compared to those of 1932!!! Thanks for showing.
Cheers
