Colourful bar in Oia, a photo from Kyklades, South Aegean

Photographer's Note

On my way to the Venetian Fortress in Oia - from where you may admire one of the best panoramas of the Ciclades and a world-famous sunset � my eye was caught by this strange bar with its wide terrace and an explosion of colours. At first it may be mistaken for a bizarre form of architecture, Disneyland-style, but looking better the reason for those unusual forms was revealed: In 1956 Oia was completely destroyed by a terrible earthquake; most of the houses have been rebuilt maintaining the original shape, but not all. The terrace of this bar was actually the floor of three arched vault rooms whose walls and roof had collapsed. The red and yellow fa軋de of the bar is what remains of those arched rooms.
A good place, anyway, to spend a lazy afternoon and waiting for the sunset.

Mentre mi dirigevo alla fortezza veneziana di Oia � da dove si pu� ammirare uno dei migliori panorami delle Cicladi e un tramonto famoso in tutto il mondo � il mio occhio fu attratto da questo strano bar con un ampia terrazza e una esplosione di colori. Da prima lo si pu� erroneamente prendere per una forma architettonica bizzarra, stile Disneyland, ma guardando meglio si rivela la ragione di queste forme insolite: nel 1956 Oia fu completamente distrutta da un terribile terremoto. La maggior parte delle case � stata ricostruita secondo il disegno originale, ma non tutte. La terrazza di questo bar era in realt� il pavimento di tre stanze dalla volta ad arco i cui muri e il tetto sono crollati. La facciata rossa e gialla del bar � ci� che rimane di queste stanze a volta.
Un buon posto, comunque, per passarci un pigro pomeriggio in attesa del tramonto.

I thought I would have a look at some of your Greek work - some lovely photos here. This one caught the eye with its move away from the traditional white and blue (it looks more Mexican than Greek - if it were not for the background). Very nice management of the colours in what looks like quite harsh lighting conditions.

Santorini is one of the destinations which is very high if not the top places in Europe to visit for me. It will not happen for a while though.
Beautiful composition, I like the strange shapes, it does not look like a real world but like a scene from a fairy tale. Just the two men sitting at the table add a realistic element. Great presentation, very well done,

an image that never scene before and i saw it yersdaday from mkamionka who criticize it.
So this is a very nice shot from Santorini with all these colours to make the island even more impressive.I'll visit Santorini 12-15 Aug.for first time so i hope to see all this beauty with my own eyes.
